While at the TDIFest in Lexington, Kentucky, we met Kyle Levesque, of performance Diesel Engineering. he showed us the mounting kit he developed to install Porshe Boxter four-piston brake calipers and larger-diameter VW Golf GTI/Jetta GLI brake rotors on MK5 and MK6 VW TDIs like our ’06 Jetta TDI.
After ordering the calipers we contacted EBC Brakes and ordered a set of front and rear 3GD drilled and slotted rotors for an ’06 VW Golf/Jetta GLI to work with the NHT calipers. The blind-drilled dimples in the EBC rotors eliminate the chance of cracking that can occur with through-drilled rotors, and the wide aperture slots aid in cooling, as well as helping to remove dirt, dust, debris and gasses developed under heavy braking. We choose to use the EBC Brakes Redstuff brake pads, front and rear, to get the most out of our brake upgrade without going too crazy with track-only brake pads.

“This was as fast and as smooth as I can ever remember here at 100 Acre Wood. The stages were in absolutely pristine condition with the exception maybe of the dust that lingered during the evening and night stages. I was in a little less-than-perfect condition with a bit of a head cold this weekend, but I don’t think that impaired our performance too much. This was an excellent rally for us.”
The team was able to hold on to a 5th-place finish in the 2WD National event. “The other teams were able to capitalize on our electrical problem early on day 1 and we just weren’t able to get enough time back on day 2. A fuel injector wire had come loose and caused an intermittent power loss on stage 1 that turned into a more significant problem on stages 2 and 3. We were able to easily repair it at service, but the other teams who had a power advantage on us going into the event really made us pay dearly for electrical glitch on the first loop of stages.”

This race weekend we practiced on Friday night, and had one race Saturday, and the regular program Sunday. The practice went pretty well. Before practice Kerri and I headed up to James Hart’s shop to do a little work to the bikes and just finish getting stuff ready for the weekend. This was our last short track race before Daytona so we wanted to make sure everything was ready to go. Steve tried some different classes this weekend running different karts so the track was a lot different, also it was the first time all winter we had fresh dirt because they had a motocross race last weekend. After the practice James and I were pretty happy with the bike, it’s still a new bike for us and we keep learning new stuff about the 2012 Kawasaki 450.
Next was the TT main. The TT had a really cool layout every time we came off or on the short track we had a choice to either go over a little hump or go around it, it was fun to have something different. In the main I got the hole shot and lead every lap but got docked a position so I ended up second with Hayden taking the win. It was all TYLER PORTER’s FAULT (He will love that). Off the start I had pole but they had a cone and a disc on the inside of the track and starting on pole you had to turn to go around it. If you beat the guy next to you off the line it was no problem but on the TT, Jake Lewis wasn’t so lucky. He was second right next to me. We both got a great start and I wasn’t going to back off to go around the cone so I just hit it and it went flying. I guess Jake wasn’t ready for it because he went straight. Jeffery Lowery started on the second row and was third after that because the whole front row went straight with Jake.
It was a great weekend and got a lot of riding in. Tried a lot of different things with the bike and learned what changes work and what the changes do. This next week I’ll be going to Colorado to do some testing with the team on my R6 then back home for a day. Then I’ll be leaving for Florida for 2 and half weeks. I will try and update after the test before I leave town. Hope to see you all in Daytona.

At the Gelleråsen Race Track in Karlskoga Sweden Bohlin Racing is running 13 Volvo C30 for Event Racing where Companies can come and rent the cars for 3 or 5 hour Races.
