Racing Brakes for a Suzuki XR69 from EBC are travelling to South Africa and The Isle of Man with Maria Costello

Costello to compete in 2011 South African Classic TT Series.

Maria onboard the Steve Wheatman Suzuki XR69 at the 2010 Manx Grand Prix. By Dave Kneen www.ManxPhotosOnline.com

The Northampton racer is heading off to sunnier climes to compete on a Trident Engineering Suzuki XR69 in the annual South African Classic TT Series which runs over three consecutive weekends at three different circuits.

The series kicks off on January 22nd at the Historic East London Grand Prix circuit followed by a two day event at the Zwartkops Raceway concluding with another two day event at the Killarney Racetrack in Cape Town. The Zwartkops event coincides with the 50th anniversary of the circuit and more spectators are expected to attend this three day event than attended the recent World Superbike Event at Kyalami.
The former Isle of Man TT female lap record holder will be riding the same Suzuki XR69 she used to compete on in the Manx Grand Prix Senior Post Classic race in 2010. She narrowly missed a podium finish on this bike when the steering damper bolt snapped off forcing her to reduce her speed. Maria is therefore keen to be reacquainted with a bike she feels she has unfinished business with.

“I’ve been invited by my Manx Grand Prix mentor and TT legend Mick Grant. Mick has been taking racers and enthusiasts to South Africa to escape the English winter since before I was born. To get an invite is just unreal and massive thanks go to my sponsor and owner of the XR69 Steve Wheatman of Hol Taj for making this dream come true.”

The racing bikes taking part in the series date from 1988 back to the early days of motorcycling. Maria’s bike is a replica of the XR69 Granty won the Isle of Man Senior TT on. Others include a Yamaha TR 750 two stroke grand prix bike, a Ducati 888 Desmo that won a British Superbike Championship in the hands of Carl Fogarty and an ex factory Suzuki RG 500 Grand Prix bike that has been ridden by both the late Barry Sheene and Mick Grant.

Better Brakes by EBC to be stunt riden at ‘Thundersprint’ by the UK’s number 1 female rider Chesca Miles

The ‘Thundersprint’ Secure Chesca Miles For Their 2011 Event

Date: Monday, 10 January 2011

Chesca Miles is heading north to bring her all action riding to Thundersprint 2011, which will be held in Northwich town centre over the weekend of May 7/8.

Chesca is Britain’s top female stunt rider and combines an all action life on her Honda show bike with high fashion modelling.

Chesca said, “I have wanted to come to the Thundersprint for years but my modelling engagements have always clashed.‟

“This year, I have made the Thundersprint my top priority and I can‟t wait to have some serious fun on the quirky town centre track.‟

Here are Chesca’s thoughts on the Thundersprint:
“My Honda CBR 600 stunt bike will be perfect for the tight circuit and for sure, I‟m not going to be riding round as if I am on the way to a fashion show.

“I‟ll be there to have some fun and really entertain the crowds.”

The Thundersprint team say, “we can’t wait to have Chesca join us at the 2011 Thundersprint. She is a superb rider with a fantastic sense of humour. We just can‟t wait to see what she pulls out of her bag to please the Thunder-sprinters, but you can be sure it will be something rather special.‟

“We really welcome female riders, and spectators, at the Thundersprint and Chesca is very much the face of modern, motorcycling woman – right in the thick of the action and a central part of it rather than a by-stander.”

“She is a brilliant addition to our already star studded line-up.”

Stunt Starz are proud to be a part of yet another spectacular event this year. The Thundersprint is set to be a very good show and we very much look forward to entertaining the crowd. We will also have a stand at the event and the rest of the team will be there to support Chesca throughout the duration of the event.

Performance Brakes do the trick for New EBC Stunt Rider Chesca Miles!

Last modified on 2011-01-06 10:31:30 GMT. 1 comment. Top.

Talented and beautiful model Chesca Miles has become Britain’s first female stunt rider, star of the future and new sponsored rider for EBC Brakes. She has fitted EBC XC Series – Fully Floating Front Disc/Rotors and Extreme Pro Brake Pads, Double-H Brake Pads & EBC Rear Solid Contour disc rotors on her 2001 CBR600F stunt bike.  Chesca, 20 years old from London, started learning how to do stunts last summer and is also planning a career as an up and coming actress using her new found skills.

Chesca’s interest in Motorcycling started when she was just seven years old and took inspiration from Dan miles her half brother watching him race in the Superstock Series. At 14 years old, Chesca owned one of her her first bikes, a ‘mini-moto’.  These days she rides her 2001 CBR600F  with a crash cage, handbrake and cut-down clutch, modifications observed from watching other stunt riders.

Chesca’s has recently gained her the attention of US film companies who have an interest in rare female stunt riders, in particular with the fast learning skills and speed that it’s taken her to do certain tricks having taking only 3 months to achieve, the same of which have taken most blokes of average skills three years to do. Chesca is a part of a freestyle stunt team called ‘Stunt Starz‘ and also models in her spare time.  With the help of EBC Performance Brakes and the excellent control they give, Chesca is looking forward to a bright future!

Best brakes this year of overwhelming success and end of season news from Team Gardner

Last modified on 2010-12-14 13:35:48 GMT. 1 comment. Top.

Team Gardner take out trophies at Phillip Island, Sydney Speedway, and a Club Championship presentation, all within a week.

Remy’s successful introduction to the world of road racing at Albacete in the NSF100 Worldwide Mini Bike race in October, and at Phillip Island a few weeks ago has fueled both his and Luca’s desire to enter the sport as soon as possible. Team Gardner is now considering opportunities for Remy to race in the Mediterranean Championship of Speed (CMV) and Metrakit Pre GP 125 Catalan (Spain) Championship in 2011. Remy would travel with Wayne to Spain from Australia with a view to moving to Spain in 2012 if all goes well.

Meanwhile in Australia, Luca will embark on his introduction to road racing utilising the Moriwaki chassis with a modified engine to 70cc in the under 13 age group, and in between Spanish races Remy will compete on the Moriwaki 80 in the 13 – under 16 category. All of these races are in Victoria or Queensland and will require a great deal of travel. The Australian road racing segment of Team Gardner’s 2011 calendar will greatly depend on national and international event timing. Dirt track racing will still feature heavily if possible to ensure Remy and Luca maintain the skill that Wayne believes will give them a long-term advantage over the European riders. And of course Wayne will continue to train both boys on and off the track to improve their riding skills and race craft, as well as an understanding of engineering, and bike knowledge. We hope to finalise plans for our 2011 campaign by January so watch this space…

Team Gardner’s last two races for 2010 were an overwhelming success. On the weekend of 3-4 December, Remy unexpectedly took home the title of 2010 MRRDA (road race) National Nippers Champion for under 13 years; and last Saturday night, under lights, he won the MAW Christmas Dirt Bike Super Prix at the Tyrepower Sydney Speedway in the 85cc 2-stroke to150cc 4-stroke class in his age group. Luca also took home a first place trophy from the Christmas Dirt Bike event after a convincing win in the 6-lap final – a great Christmas present for Team Gardner, and a very positive finish to the year.

Throughout the year, Remy and Luca competed in the Central Coast Junior Motorcycle Club competition with Remy riding at five out of seven Club Day races, and Luca competing in three. Yesterday Remy had accumulated enough points to win the Club Championship on his Honda CR85 in the 85cc 2-stroke to 150cc 4-stroke class for 11 – under 13 years. He proudly accepted his trophy at the Club Christmas party and presentation day.

2010 has been an incredibly rewarding year, and not just because of the number of trophies on the shelves. All the hard work, training, and dedication to their sport has really paid of for Remy, Luca and Wayne. The plan to develop race craft within the Dirt and Longtrack arena has really proven successful grounding for road racing, and Wayne’s personal training schedule introducing the boys to tar (starting with their dirt bikes on go-kart tracks and moving to larger circuits on the Moriwakis), has also established a solid foundation for their future.

The next few years promise to provide a great deal of excitement and experience for Team Gardner and we hope our sponsors and supporters will continue the journey with us. In the meantime, thanks as always for your help and interest in Remy and Luca’s racing pursuits.

We’re finally at the end of 2010 and what a hectic year it’s been. We’ve come away with some great results after a lot of hard work, but it’s certainly been worth it.

My most nervous moment of the year was Remy’s first road race at Albacete. He’d never raced on a circuit that size, or with a reverse gear pattern, so I didn’t know if I’d over-stepped the mark by allowing him to compete. Once I saw him mixing it with the international kids, I knew he could handle it and my nerves were reasonably calmed!! The highlight for me was seeing Rem race and perform so well in his Australian road race debut at Phillip Island – you can see the older competitors chasing him down over Lukey Heights in the photo to the left. The most exciting race this year came when Luca took victory by 1,000th of a second at Sydney Speedway in August, proving his ability to himself and developing his confidence.

We’re about to embark on a huge journey as Remy and I prepare ourselves for a year of travelling to Europe and Luca dips his toe into road racing locally. Remy is more determined than ever to establish a career in road racing, and I believe his dedication, determination and skills combine for a potentially successful future.

We are well aware we couldn’t have done it, and can’t continue to do it without the dedicated support of our sponsors and supporters, and therefore sincerely thank you for being part of Team Gardner. We wish you a very Happy Christmas and a great 2011.

Joe Cotterino had instant success with EBC Brakes during his 2010 season

Last modified on 2010-12-01 14:34:42 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

What a season it has been! Just like last year, when our team started this season, we had championships on the agenda.

The first race of the season was Daytona. We only took the Ultra Light bike and ran all three race classes on it. We were rewarded with a hard earned win and started the season on a good note. With a few crashes and a catastrophic connecting rod failure, the season was not without troubles. The few crashes left me bruised in both body and confidence as well as expensive repairs. But, perseverance and consistency prevailed and the season was a tremendous success.

The results for this season read what we figured a few years would produce. We never imagined all of this would be accomplished in a single season.
When the points were tallied, here is how we fared:

CCS Atlantic Championships:
1st Ultra Light Superbike
1st GT Light
1st Lightweight Super Bike

CCS Southeast Championships:
3rd Ultra Light Superbike
3rd Lightweight Superbike
5th GT Light

CCS Mid-Atlantic Championships:
1st Ultra Light Superbike
3rd GT Light 1st Lightweight Superbike
3rd Lightweight Super Bike

NJMP Track Championships:
1st Ultra Light Superbike
1st Lightweight Superbike
2nd GT Light

Summit Point Track Championships:
2nd Ultra Light Superbike
4th GT Light
4th Lightweight Super Bike

Over-All Championships:
8th out of 266 – Mid-Atlantic Series
10th out of 247 – Atlantic Series

I want to thank our entire team and crew for all their hard work and support. We would like to close by thanking EBC Brakes for their support. Without you, our season would not have turned out so well. We look forward to working with you again in 2011!

Jake Johnson, this Years AMA Flat Track champion with EBC Brakes

Last modified on 2010-11-18 12:41:14 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Huge congratulations go out to Jake Johnson from EBC brakes for his fabulous recent achievement. Jake was crowned as the official overall Grand National Champion for the first time since 2006 and awarded with a well deserved cash prize. Jake, now a rider for Zanotti Racing has had an excellent season concluding with an exciting final round race in the National series in which he gained a 10 point lead over Joe Kopp, a 2000 GNC champion.  Jake also managed to pip Jared Mees at the post by a mear .0004 seconds at the checkered flag.

Jakes season started in excellent style at Daytona when on the first night he scored a 3rd place finish. On the second night he won the race then during the following races finished in 6th place in Arizona, Springfield and Yavapai Downs.

The rest of the season was a mixture of finishes placing Jake just 10 points behind the leader Joe Kopp after the Hagerstown race. It was at the Canterbury Park race that Jake now in second position completed the race and secured the championship win overall.

Raines Riding University Newsletter – Month by month events with EBC Brakes

Last modified on 2010-11-15 16:42:07 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

The last several months have been wide open and now I am slowing down a bit heading into November and December to focus on making the schools better for 2011 and getting my 2011 schedule together.

Sorry I haven’t sent an up-date in awhile! Below is a list of events I have done the past few months and a brief description for each one.

July 10-11-Riding School in Lake Elkhart, WI-Great school with perfect weather, the only problem was the bugs! We had a awesome balance drill that had the riders riding over a narrow steel plate across a swamp! It was intense and luckily no one got wet, no one wanted to find out how deep the water was, but I bet if someone fell off the bike would have disappear!

July 17-18-Riding School in Surry, VA-This was the hottest class of the year! I over worked myself and didn’t stay hydrated enough prior to the class, come Saturday afternoon, I was done. I had to take a trip to the hospital that night and get 8 bags of fluid to get my liquid levels back up. This was a great group of riders that soldiered it out even though the conditions were so tough. Great location and we had a lot of challenging obstacles! Thank you to Alex Benhart for videoing the entire class and editing the footage to make a great DVD.

July 19-20-Riding School in Surry, VA-Another great class with a clot of fast riders that made big improvements on their lap times. Thank you to Ralph Benhart for all his help with both schools and videoing this class in the hot conditions. Great time and a lot of hard workers.

August 5-6-Riding School in Simpsonville, SC-This was a private class with Nathan Reynolds. He is a young up and coming MX racer and we worked 2 full days down at Thunder Valley MX www.thundervalleymotox.com in Simpsonville, SC. Nathan shaved a massive amount of time off his lap time on the MX track. He got a lot faster through the corners and through the long whoop section. His confidence was elevated one he started jumping the rhythm section too. Great 2 days, other than one rain shower! Nathan is motivated to be the best and his hard work reflected his dedication.

August 7-MX race in Simpsonville, SC-The race was at Thunder Valley MX www.thundervalleymotox.com it was a night race under the lights. The weather was hit and miss all day and when we showed up to the track, the conditions were perfect, but it didn’t take long before the clouds rolled in and it started raining……and it rained all night long. I rode 2 classes and won both of them! My daughter also raced in her first race ever and won her race too! It was a great night to have both of us walk away with 1st place awards.

August 10-11-Riding School in Travelers Rest, SC-This was a private class with Taylor and Jonathan Johnson down at out facility in Travelers Rest. We had a great time and both riders mastered many new techniques. Both of the riders improved a lot on their lap times, as well as their consistency and confidence.

August 24-25-Riding School in Travelers Rest, SC-This was a one on one with Jon Michael Rainey at our training facility. Jon Michael is one of the top riders in the GNCC youth series as well as a top rider in all the local races he attends. This guy works hard and is driven to be ht best. We worked hard form sun up to sun down for 2 straight days and he was able to shave a lot of time off of his lap times. Great family that supports them and they have been friends of mine since I moved to the south. Had a great 2 days!

August 28-29-Riding School in Bristol, TN-Awesome location and a great group of guys! The Arnold’s invited me to their property to do a school for their group of riders. These guys worked hard for both the long days and they all made big improvements in body position, confidence, speed and consistency. I made a big step-up jump for them and at first they were a little hesitant, but after building their confidence, they cleared the gap with no problem!

September 10-Riding School in Mt. Vernon, WA-This was a great place to do a school, I showed up a little later than I wanted to (blew a tire ion Missouri on my drive out which out me behind) so I had to work extra hard to get everything set-up for the students. The class went great other than the typical Washington weather, it rained off and on all day long, but never got too muddy. All the riders worked hard and overcame some of their bad habits to help them be faster, and in more control.

September 11-Endurocross Race in Everett, WA-Practice went good and I felt good on the track, I went into my hot lap and had a really solid time which gave me a great gate pick for my qualifier. From there, it was all down hill and it seemed like once the races got going, I was making mistake after mistake. I didn’t make the main, but this was a great race. It was fun to be riding in so many of my friends and seeing people I haven’t seen form my home in so many years. It was cool to be the local hometown boy at such a great event, thank you to lance Bryson and the rest of the crew for getting me so much exposure at this race. I had pictures in the local paper, was in the radio advertisement and they let me have a nice introduction during the opening ceremonies.

September 12-Riding School in Mt. Vernon, WA-This was a great group of riders. A lot of the riders in this class were rider that I learned from when I was racing back in Washington growing up. It was really fun to be able to work with some of my heroes and even teach them a few things! All the riders improved their lap times and we worked until we couldn’t see anymore, great day! Thank you to Tate and Taft Matherly for helping me so much with this school www.teamtortoiseracing.com .

September 13-Riding School in Mt. Vernon, WA-This was another great day in Mt. Vernon. Had a lot of fun working with Todd Breth one on one, he made big improvements and learned some valuable techniques to take back to Missoula, MT!

September 18-20-Riding School in Belfair, WA-This school was help on my family’s property where I grew up riding. I put a lot of work into this class laying everything out for them and it was really fun to have a school on the same property learned how to ride on. It rained and with the clay, made for some tough conditions. The riders did great and if they can ride o that nasty clay, they can ride anywhere on the planet. We had two long days, but they were rewarded with huge gains on their lap times. It was a long 3 days, but each rider put 100% in until the sun went down ion the third day.

September 25-26-Riding School in Belfair, WA-Another wet two days, but the temps were warm so it could have been worse. We had a nasty hill we tried time after time but no one (including me) could crest the top. This hill was covered with slick clay and I think you would have had to have studded tires to make it over. Great group of friends and all riders moved forward in their riding.

October 2-3-Riding School in Battle Creek, MI-Great weather for the two days of riding www.battlecreekmotorcycleclub.com ! This place is one of my favorite tracks, the dirt is sandy and the trails are mostly single track with a great flow. It also has a awesome MX track! We had a lot of great things to work on during the two days of training. All the riders did an excellent job of learning the new techniques and by the end of day 2, made massive time gains off their beginning lap times. Speed is always good to gain, but all the riders got faster and also soother. October 16-MX Race-Simpsonville, SC-This was another night race at Thunder Valley MX www.thundervalleymotox.com. This time, the track was perfect the entire time! I won all 4 of my motos and my daughter (2nd race) got 2nd in her class on the Yamaha PW 50. She rode hard and is getting better ever day she is on it. Great night for all of us.

October 23-24-Riding School in Fountain, CO-It was dry and dusty all weekend, clouds moved in and looked as if it was gong to rain on Friday, but nothing came of it. We had a great group of riders that worked hard the entire weekend. We worked from 8:30 am to dark both days. We had a massive log at this place and 2 of the riders (Wes, mike) went over it like seasoned veterans! Great weekend and big improvements were had by all of us. Thank you to Jeff Slavens www.slavensracing.com for all his help with this school. Thank you to EBC Brakes their help and support!

Bryan Hulsey shares the November Issue of Parts Magazine article with EBC Brakes

Last modified on 2010-10-28 11:28:47 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Hi Everyone,
We wanted to take some time to show you some publicity that the Team Epic Racing riders (Bryan Hulsey and John Pitts) have received toward the end of this 2010 OMA Pro-ATV National racing season.  Attached is a link to the Parts Magazine that goes out to all motorcycle and ATV dealers and to many of you as well.  We have been featured in every issue this year with the super close points battle that raged on all year from start to finish.  We know that the Team  is not officially mentioned in the press at this time, however we will be a force for the 2011 season to repeat the results again as Team Epic Racing.

Parts Magazine November 2010 – OMA Nationals Update Article

We pretty much do everything like travel to the races, train and practice together and race together and our family’s generally hang out together, so we decided to make our racing effort as Team Epic Racing.  We will be doing much more promoting of our sponsors at the races and on the podiums as a team for next year as well as setting up both of our bikes in the Vee Rubber Tire booth at the Dealer Trade Expo in Indianapolis this next year in February.

Thanks again,

Team Epic Racing

World Champions Son makes Road Race debut at 12 years old

Last modified on 2010-10-25 12:47:41 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Here is the latest press release from Team Gardner:

Albacete, 24 October 2010: “that’s the best fun I’ve ever had!”. These were the first words out of twelve year old Remy Gardner’s mouth after his debut road race this weekend, bringing tears to the eyes of his World 500cc Champion father, Wayne.

Competing as a wild card entry in the Honda Racing Corporation NSF100 Trophy Worldwide Mini Bike race at Albacete Circuit in Spain, Remy was faced with a mammoth challenge to familiarise himself with a new 3.5km high speed circuit, and a new bike with a reverse gear pattern, which he had never used before.

Thirty six of the top NSF100 competitors from around the world were entered in the event, sharing eighteen bikes, over two separate sessions. The top nine riders from each semifinal race competed in a final, and the other eighteen riders in a consolation final on Sunday.

Remy missed a place in the final by only three places after a thrilling semi-final on Saturday afternoon. He got a great start from the back of the grid, taking two riders on the straight and fighting with a pack of four riders throughout the five lap race to finish at the front of the pack in twelfth position, and seven seconds faster than his qualifying time. Unfortunately it wasn’t good enough to make the final race, but he was certainly more confident and determined going into the consolation final. “My first race was so much fun,” said Remy. “I just want to keep doing that forever. It’s like a drug – you can’t get enough of it. I know if I had some more time on the bike I could do better, but I’m just happy to be able to compete with the best in the world,” he added.

The consolation final today was an exciting race with some thrilling chopping and changing in the lead group. Remy started sixth on the grid, gaining two places into the first corner. He was relegated to fifth on the next corner, staying in position for the following lap. Over the next three and a half laps he diced with the top riders, moving up and down the field to finish a very close eleventh, in just .744 seconds from 3rd place, and with a huge smile on his face. “I loved battling against everyone. It was so much fun, I couldn’t believe it. I just wanted to keep going! I actually leant over on a guy on the corner – it was sick,” said Remy directly after the race.

It had been a roller coaster of a weekend from the very beginning, with first practice not going to plan. Remy wasn’t aware of the reverse gear pattern until he rode out of the pits, and had a low speed crash on the second lap after confusing the shift pattern. He picked himself up and spent the rest of the session learning the circuit and training himself to work with the new shift pattern. The afternoon session was a little better, and Remy spent the time building his confidence and trying to come to terms with the high speed corners. It was obvious this was an area he had no experience after only training on small circuits and competing in low speed dirt track conditions.

Dealing with cold conditions and inexperience in qualifying, Remy’s confidence was a little shaken. After a tentative session he finished qualifying last on the grid for the afternoon semi-final race. A little disappointed but very determined to improve, Remy put on his ‘race face’ and went into the semi-final with a goal to move up from eighteenth place, which he did in style.

“I’m so proud right now,” said Wayne. “This has been a massive challenge for Remy and he’s risen to that challenge extraordinarily well. At the beginning of the weekend I was concerned we might have bitten off more than we could chew, but Remy put his head down and pushed through to a respectable finish. He’s certainly proved his tenacity and passion,” Wayne added. “I’m really not sure where we’ll go from here. We need to go home, re-group and think about the future.

Remy also had a great time meeting the other international competitors. “I’ve made some really nice friends here, from Spain, South Africa, Italy, Japan, Sweden and all over Europe. I hope I’ll get to race them again soon.”

Fantastic success with EBC Brakes – Jake Johnson Wins Race & Title in Arizona!

Last modified on 2010-10-20 15:39:02 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

EBC Brakes are pleased to announce this years AMA Pro Racing Grand National Jake Johnson.

The article below is the race report from www.cyclenews.com

Johnson gets his first Grand National Championship in season finale Zanotti Racing’s.

Jake Johnson won his first AMA Pro Grand National Championship with a thrilling victory in the season-ending Yavapai Downs Mile in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

Johnson had won the singles title twice before, in 2006 and ’08, but his best season finish in the “unofficial” combined championship was fourth. The 26-year-old from New Jersey had arrived in Arizona with the strongest hand, holding a ten point lead on Joe Kopp, the Latus H-D Ducati rider who’d won the spring race here, and 19 on defending twins champion, Jared Mees (Rogers Lake Racing/Blue Springs H-D).

But early in the day Johnson wasn’t in championship form. His qualifying time was only ninth fastest and his third heat win was the slowest of the three. Then, in the Dash for Cash, he finished fifth and could only watch a scintillating finish. Sammy Halbert (Kings Kustoms/KK Motorcycle Supply) won the four-lap race by .019 sec. over Mees and P.J. Jacobsen (Moroney’s/1800fasthog/Weissracing.com), who finished in a dead heat for second.

“After the Dash didn’t go so well, I wasn’t too sure about the main and I was just hoping for the best,” said Johnson. “Then, when the race started and I was up front, I decided to go for it. It’s safer with everyone behind you.”

Dash winner Halbert opted to start on the second row behind pole sitter Mees, winner of the fastest heat. It paid off for Halbert, who finished the first lap in second, with Stevie Bonsey (Dodge Brothers/Johnny Goad) and Harley-Davidson/Screamin’ Eagle’s Kenny Coolbeth also bunched up behind the points leader.

Kopp had gotten bottled up at the start and had to run down the leaders from mid-pack, along with Kawasaki/Monster Energy/Werner-Springsteen Racing’s Bryan Smith (Kaw). Bonsey slipped off the groove one too many times and soon dropped from contention.

“We were rubbing and bumping and I thought about dropping back to around fifth and then try to work my way back at the end, but in the past I’ve never been able to make that work,” said Johnson. “I knew I could double draft them, but nobody seemed able to do that to me. I wasn’t sure where Joe (Kopp) was, so I just decided to go for it.”

The quartet came off the final corner tightly bunched and with Johnson in front and vulnerable. But the strategy paid off as he powered to victory by a scant .004 sec. over Mees, with Halbert taking the final podium spot .160 sec. behind Johnson. Coolbeth was fourth, and only .309 sec. behind Halbert.

“I thought I might as well lead it off turn four and see what they could do,” Johnson said. “Jared (Mees) just came up inches short.” Kopp was two secs. behind Coolbeth and about a second up on Smith, the sixth place finisher. Bonsey was alone in seventh, with the veteran Chris Carr (Lancaster Harley-Davidson) just holding off Jacobsen for eighth.

Aided by three race wins, Johnson finished the season with 289 points, 20 more than Joe Kopp and Jared Mees, who tied for second. Kopp had three wins this year, Mees none. Johnson also won the Grand National Twins Championship over Kenny Coolbeth Jr., 191 to 170.

Gerry Signorelli is Overall Champion and Master of the Mountains with EBC!

Last modified on 2010-10-14 12:35:01 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Please read and enjoy the latest press release from overall champion of the the Masters of the Mountains Series, Gerry Signorelli:

Late Season Drama Does Not Stop Success For Racing For A Wish
Racing for a Wish and Gerry Signorelli dealt with late season drama on their way to clinching the overall championship in the Masters of the Mountains Series. The team made the most of what they had though as Signorelli won the King of the Mountain GTO, Open Superbike, and Open Superstock class championships. He also finished 4th in both the 125GP and Moto3 class championships in the USGPRU National Series on the Bob Fier Racing Moriwaki MD250H. A crash last month on the BMW forced Gerry to ride borrowed machinery in the last two MoM rounds to collect points to keep the hope of winning championships alive.

This past weekend at Miller Motorsports Park offered exciting racing as it played host for both the Masters of the Mountain and USGPRU series finales. Being on an unfamiliar bike, Signorelli road conservatively all weekend and did what he had to do to guarantee championship wins. Conservative is not the word to be used to describe how Signorelli rode the Bob Fier Racing Moriwaki though. He rode wheels off the stock 4-stroker and put on a good show against the 125ʼs that are lighter and have a lot more power.

“Iʼm thrilled to have accomplished what we did this year”, exclaimed Gerry. “We stretched ourselves, pushing to be
competitive in two full series with big learning curves. Before this year, I hadnʼt ever been on anything other than a 600cc sportbike. I was confident that I could learn to ride a 1000cc superbike and a 250cc GP bike well, and be able to transition back and forth quickly. Even more, we didnʼt change a thing in either bikeʼs motor, we even kept stock suspension components. Being up against big time teams with a lot of resources and money, it feels incredible to come out on top. I really want to thank Kory Cowan with Pirelli for offering me the chance to come out to Utah to prove the effectiveness of Pirelli Tires. I also want to thank Bob Fier Racing for providing me the opportunity to ride in the USGPRU series. Both bikes have been a blast this year! Lastly, support has been tremendous this year from EBC Brakes.

Racing for a Wish is a motorcycle road racing program that benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation as it supports Gerry
Signorelliʼs development towards becoming an internationally competitive racer. Racing for a Wish markets sponsorsʼ brands in the thrilling world of motorsports.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children under the age of eighteen with life threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. Fifteen percent of sponsors’ cash contributions goes directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado so they may continue granting wishes for deserving and inspiring kids. Along with a financial contribution, Racing for a Wish reaches out to communities to raise awareness of the charityʼs great cause.

A fantastic first season for Bournemouth Kawasaki and EBC Brakes!

Last modified on 2010-10-13 14:00:38 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

As the season draws to a close the Bournemouth Kawasaki boys Luke Stapleford and James Hillier sent us their last race report of this year, please read below:

Oulton Park  September 2010
James Hillier
James Was determined to put things right after 2 crashes at Silverstone in the wet and apart from a high speed crash on Friday which wasnt his fault at all things went really well and James managed to be be 4 th Place on the grid for this triple Race weekend, Race 1 James got a poor start but battled his way up to a group of riders who were 3rd, 4th and 5 th in the Evo Race, James had a fantastic battle and managed to get 4 th in the Race although a photo finish was needed between the 3 riders, Race Two and James Started well and was running in second place behind Evo Champion Steve Brogan untill he tucked the front on the final corner and went down, Race 3 James was in a real battle with Gary Johnson and Australian Chris Seaton for the final podium and James managed to hold them off through to the flag and bring the bike home in a fine 3rd place and take his place on the podium for the last Race of the year and a great way to end the season.

Silverstone September 2010
Luke Stapleford
Luke came to Oulton knowing that his only chance to win the Championship would be to win the Race and he didn’t disappoint in any way. He set about Practice and Qualifying in his usual Professional way and managed to put himself in Second spot on the grid for the last Race of the Year. Luke was just 8 points from Second and 16 points from the series leader Josh Day. He knew he needed to win and have a bit of luck on his side to win the Championship. Luke Rode a fantastic Race and lead almost straight away taking his battle to the series leaders and making them follow, Luke’s pace hotted up near the end and Buchan who needed to finish 3rd to win the Championship made a mistake at Cascades and went on the grass allowing Jimmy Hill to take third in the race which meant Luke jumped Buchan to Second in the Championship, Josh Day finished in 7th place and managed to beat Luke by one single point for the British Superstock Championship of 2010, We must congratulate Both Luke and James on a fantastic 1 st season in the Bournemouth Kawasaki Racing squad.Roll on 2011. A special Thank you EBC Brakes and we look forward to working with you all again in 2011.

I wanted to send you an update on the OMA Pro-ATV season so far.  I finished 2nd at round 9 which moved me to 2nd overall in the points just 1 point out of the lead.   It will come down to the final race for the championship.  I have attached the article for round nine in Memphis MO.  It was a muddy mess, but I pushed through and just missed out on the win.

As always thank you EBC Brakes for your continued support, and I will give it my all to bring back the OMA Pro-ATV Championship for all of you at the final round in Morrison IL.

TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha Strengthens Points Position with Fourth at Barber

Last modified on 2010-09-24 09:45:12 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

LEEDS, Ala.—Chuck Ivey, Scott Brown, and James Vanderhaar wrapped up the penultimate round of the 2010 WERA National Endurance Series season with fourth in the Heavyweight class. Saturday’s four-hour race at Barber Motorsports Park solidified TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha’s standings in the championship.

With just one round remaining, TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha sits at second in the Heavyweight championship and third overall.

“The series has been very competitive this year, and the team has really stuck together and we’ve run well at every race,” says team owner Ivey. “That consistency has paid off with second in class, which puts us in great company with Graves/Team Zyvax and shows the experience of TVR.”

That experience showed during Friday’s practice sessions at Barber, where Ivey, Brown and Vanderhaar worked to get the TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha YZF-R1 set up for the track.

“We’ve definitely been making more and more changes as the year has gone on. We’ve all gotten comfortable with each other and are able to make changes to get the bike working better,” says Vanderhaar.

Those setup changes proved to be perfect at the start of Saturday’s race. Ivey ran as high as fifth overall and third in class during the second hour. As the temperatures soared, though, track conditions changed dramatically and handling become an issue.

Nevertheless, the riders soldiered on to finish seventh overall and fourth in Heavyweight. The points amassed during the race have helped TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha strengthen their championship position.

“We rode a clean race and the pit stops were flawless. We stayed out of trouble and maintained our points position,” says Ivey of the race. The Michelin tires were also a benefit, with the front tire lasting the entire race despite the high temperatures.

For the team, staying consistent has been a key factor all season, and it will be equally important when they head to the season finale at Road Atlanta on Friday, October 8.

“I think we’ve come a long way. As the season has progressed, we’ve all gotten on the same page,” says Brown. “However, we’ve got to ride better than we did in Birmingham. We all struggled a little bit. I’m looking forward to going back to Road Atlanta and going faster.”

“We need to have another solid weekend and a consistent finish,” says Vandarhaar. “We can’t afford to have any major mishaps. We’ve had a great year, finishing every round and minimizing any issues we’ve had. We just need that to happen one more time.”

Keep up with the team’s season and find pictures online at: www.TeamVelocityRacing.com

Jake Holden & Danny Eslick outbrakes the competition and stay at top positions with EBC Brakes

Last modified on 2010-09-08 15:58:14 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

RMR/Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing rider Jake Holden scored his first victory in the AMA Pro Racing Vance & Hines XR1200 series with a dominating flag-to-flag victory at New Jersey Motorsports Park on September 6.

With Holden’s teammate and pre-New Jersey series points leader Danny Eslick sitting out the round to concentrate on his tight battle for the championship in the Daytona SportBike class, Holden looked to have clear sailing early in the weekend. A strong showing by newcomer PJ Jacobson, who qualified in second position on the Celtic Racing entry, hinted he might be Holden’s toughest competition, but at the start of Sunday’s 12-lap feature race it was RMR/Rossmeyer’s Kyle Wyman who got the holeshot into turn one and led part of the first lap.

“I was smoking my hush puppies on the start. I almost looped it,” said Holden, who was third into the first corner after his bike wheelied off the starting line. “I knew I had to get out there and possibly make a gap because I knew these guys were starting to pick up the pace. I felt like I was pushing the envelope there for a bit after I got by Kyle and PJ trying to break a gap. Then just put my head down and went for the win.”

Once he gained the lead, Holden checked out as Jacobson and Wyman diced for the second step of the podium, waging a back and forth drafting battle in the race’s late stages. Wyman moved back into second on lap 10, only to be repassed by Jacobson on the penultimate lap, setting up what looked to be drag race off the final corner to the checkered flag. But on the final lap, Wyman was unable to make the slingshot pass work and Jacobson held onto to second place by a 0.203 second margin.

“Kyle and I had an awesome battle. I didn’t really know what to expect near the end with the tire wearing a little bit. It was definitely a fun race,” said Jacobson, who ran most of the race with a broken shifter.

“I got a lucky break getting the holeshot there and getting out front first, but then Jake came by me in turn five, and then PJ came by me in the last corner there on the first lap and I knew I had to tag onto one of those guys and try to go with them,” Wyman said. “I brought [PJ] back a little at the end and got by him. He came back by me on the next lap and we were really close. I thought I was going to be able to do it at the end. On the last lap coming out of turn nine with his broken shifter he kind of missed a shift and I was right up underneath his rear end and had to check up a little bit and then I couldn’t get the drive out of there.”

In fourth place, MotorcycleUSA.com editor Steve Atlas posted a strong finish for HOG Racing in his series debut, followed by Harv’s Harley-Davidson’s Travis Wyman in fifth, RMR/Rossmeyer’s Joe Rozynski in sixth and James Gang/Hoban Brothers Racing’s Paul James in seventh. Michael Corbino (RMR/Rossmeyer) and Matthew Heidel (Shar-Tuff Racing) rounded out the order.

Jake Holden is now in First in the Point’s… Even without racing this round, Danny Eslick is holding down Second Overall in Point’s, with just one race to go !

The five-round Vance & Hines XR1200 series concludes September 25-26 with the final round of the 2010 AMA Pro Racing season at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama.

Maria Costello gives excellent performance with EBC Brakes despite a mechanical failure!

Maria onboard the Steve Wheatman Suzuki XR69 at the famous Creg Ny Baa corner. By Dave Kneen www.ManxPhotosOnline.com

The Northampton racer followed up her recent record-busting performance at the Ulster Grand Prix to finish within a whisker of third place in the Manx Grand Prix Senior Post Classic race on the Isle of Man on Monday.

The former Isle of Man TT female lap record holder was riding superbly in third place and was set for another podium finish when the steering damper of her Suzuki XR69 snapped off forcing her to reduce her speed.

However, despite the damper failure Costello was thrilled to have ridden so well in a race won by Michael Dunlop in a record time of one hour 18 minutes 6.23 seconds. Costello had entered the last lap behind Dunlop and runner-up Michael Buckley dreaming of her second Isle of Man podium following her 2005 third place in the ultra lightweight category. But the snapped steering damper meant her final lap time of 22mins 46.13 seconds was not enough to prevent Geoff Martin and Chris McGahan overtaking her.

“I’d not even considered a place on the podium, so when I saw the boards around the course with ‘3’ on them it was like, ‘me, third?’,” said Costello, who will be signing copies of her autobiography, Queen Of Bikers, at the Northampton branch of Waterstones later this month.

“Of course it was disappointing to lose out on the podium because of a problem beyond my control, but I’m still over the moon that I managed to get the big old Suzuki back across the finish line without a steering damper.

“The Suzuki has been a real challenge to ride but I’ve had an amazing Manx Grand Prix and I’m looking forward to returning next year on another Post Classic machine. I can’t thank the ‘dream team’ of Steve Wheatman [owner of the Suzuki XR69], Jon Sims [who built it], Mick Grant [TT legend and my mentor] and Paul Boulton [top spanner man] enough. This Manx Grand Prix has been one of the best experiences of my life.”

Canada Top Road Racer wins again on EBC Brakes

Last modified on 2010-09-01 13:14:50 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

After writing history at Atlantic Motorsports Park with an unprecedented perfect season, and seven Canadian National Superbike titles, Jordan Szoke repacked his championship CBR1000RR’s and pointed the rig south.  Once again, challenging North America’s best in the ranks of AMA Pro Racing’s American Superbike class at Virginia International Speedway.  Jordan has been to VIR before, in 2003, aboard some very different equipment.

With Thursday practice cancelled, Szoke has his work cut out for him with a small 50 min practice window before the first qualifying session begins.  The heat and humidity hanging over the 1200 acre site near Alton Virginia, had Szoke and his Waznie Racing crew sweating.  Not only due to the high temperatures, but also the pressure on Szoke to get his bike set up just right.  “Getting your bike set up perfectly is so important for us.” says Szoke “We don’t have the luxury of electronics to help during the race, so if I don’t get it just right, fatigue can play a major role when the tire starts to go off.”  Jordan’s equipment is built around the Canadian National Series rules.

With two chances to get it done, Szoke nails down his best performance on his ninth lap in the second qualifying session.  Landing him on the third row of the American Superbike grid for both Saturday and Sunday’s grueling 23 lap race around the 2.25 mile, 17 turn roadcourse.

Saturday’s Superbike race finds Szoke rocketing right up to the front with a killer start on his Honda CBR1000RR.   The first quarter of the race Szoke cranks out fast, consistent lap times.  Tire wear and fatigue set in mid way to the checkered, and Jordan finishes in 10th place.  “I can get the fast laps out there,” says Szoke, “ What we’re struggling with is consist lap times.  After 23 laps without any electronics it’s tough to wrestle a superbike around for that long.  Nailing the set up is crucial for us to be successful, luckily we have a ton of help from the guys at K-Tech Suspension to get it just right.”

Sunday’s Superbike warm up session brought around another series of major set up changes and propelled Szoke to 7th fastest of the session.  Jordan strategies with Sebastian from Dunlop for his tire compound choice for race #2.  “We chose a soft tire to try to take off with the pack at the beginning.  I’m not sure what’s going to happen at the end of the race,” laughs Szoke “but we’re going to put the Honda up there for a bit anyways.”

As Szoke settles into the starting grid for Sunday’s race #2 under sunny skies and raging temperatures, all that is on his mind are the first few laps.  It is paramount that he garners a good start in order to get the first few perfect laps required with his soft tire choice.  As the lights go out, Jordan unfortunately finds himself bunched up at the start, while the competitors ahead of him pull away.  Szoke battles past the competition, leading one of the many battles that are fought within the race.  Jordan concludes his second AMA weekend with another accomplished 10th place finish.

“I feel like we are so (so) close.” says Szoke “I am really starting to get used to the Dunlop Tires and finding out how they work.  I want to continue to compete in the remainder of the 2010 AMA season, but we will have to see if financially we can make it happen.”

With some more support, Szoke is hoping to continue competing in AMA American Superbike during Round 9, taking place at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

2010 ELLIOTTS LANDSCAPE SUPPLIES CENTRAL COAST CUP
28-29 AUGUST, CENTRAL COAST JUNIOR MOTORCYCLE CLUB INC

Remy Gardner in Action
Team Gardner celebrated another successful weekend of racing, with two top step podium finishes, two seconds and a third between them.

More than 100 riders took advantage of the opportunity to set themselves up for the 2010 Honda Australian Junior Track Championships being held at the Central Coast in October.

Remy, Luca and Josh all had success on the weekend, each of them taking home a trophy or two. Remy and Josh, along with all winners on the day proudly celebrated their wins with a chequered flag victory lap.

Famous sports commentator Darrell Eastlake called in for a few hours to cheer on Team Gardner and experience some exciting racing at his local track.

Central Coast Junior Motorcycle Club

All in all it was a great weekend of racing, testing and preparing for the Honda Australian Junior Track Championships on 8-10 October. Well done to the Central Coast Junior Motorcycle Club for putting on an excellent event and all the competitors for a great weekend of impressive and close racing.

“We did a good bit of testing this weekend and Remy and I really feel like we’ve made some headway with the set up of the CR85. Things aren’t perfect yet, but I expect we’ll be ready for the Aussie titles,” said Wayne. “We tried a few things with the 150, but Rem really feels comfortable on it as is, so we’ll leave it alone now. We just needed to get to know the 2 stroke a bit better, and I think we’re starting to do that. Luca’s 80 will get refreshed before the titles too, but it’s generally a great little bike,” he added.

John Pitts goes two for two this weekend with EBC Brakes

This weekend went great I won both the OMA ATV National / Co-sanctioned OXC on Saturday, and a district 17 race on Sunday in Fosterberg.  I could not have asked for a better weekend than that, with a dead last start off the line both days I managed to battle my way through the pack to take the over all win both days.  Once the Internet articles are out I will get a link copied and sent out.

There is a pic of me on the OMA home page also www.unitedoffroadracing.com

I was also pictured in the ATV action magazine in the September issue.
Thanks for all your support

EBC Brakes impressive performance gave Bobby Fong the closest 1st place finish in AMA National Roadracing in History!

Last modified on 2010-08-27 13:38:03 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Saturday 14th August AMA Daytona SportBike Class Mid Ohio
DNA Energy Drink/CnR Motorsports Team ends VIR Day One on a high note.
West Coast SuperSport championship winner Joey Pascarella qualified second after being a tenth of a second off the pole.  Joey got off to a good start and had a great battle with two other SuperSport riders at VIR.  After finally passing he formed a nice gap and secured a second place finish.  This is Joey’s first podium as a DNA Energy / CNR Motorsports rider.  “Today I shredded the gnar, and I am really happy to be back on the podium”, says Pascarella.

In Daytona SportBike Race One, Fong and Beck both jolted to the front of the pack after starting in the 3rd row.  Fong jumped out front right away battling for top position as Beck worked his way through the field.  Before the red flag Fong was in second and Beck was running a strong 6th place.
After the restart Fong went back to work battling Cardenas and Eslick for the top spot in the race.  Beck didn’t get the restart that he wanted but he was able to work his way between multiple riders to regain 6th place.  While Beck was working his way through the pack, Fong was showing his maturity and progression by constantly applying pressure to Eslick and Cardenas.  “The race was mint.  I can’t believe I finally won my first AMA Pro Race,” says Fong.

The race outcome was decided by a photo taken at the finish line. The margin of victory was 0.00.
“Today has been absolutely unbelievable. No words can explain how the team and myself feel at this moment.  Fong, Beck, Pascarella, and the team have worked really hard throughout the season to achieve the results that we have today”, says Robbie.

“We started this year knowing what we wanted to achieve as a small team and today all three of my riders have really raised the bar for my team and my crew.  There is no better way to celebrate my birthday than having two of our three riders on the podium.  Bobby has really grown as a rider this season. We knew we were going to win a race, we just didn’t know it was going to be this soon.  We are looking forward to more solid results on Sunday”, says Crozier.

Sunday 15th August AMA Daytona SportBike Class Mid Ohio
DNA Energy Drink/CnR Motorsports rider #30 Bobby Fong had full intentions of backing up his amazing race win from Saturday again on Sunday. But, during the beginning of Sunday’s AMA Pro Daytona SportBike race Bobby crashed his bike and unfortunately was unable to finish. Teammate Michael Beck, who finished 6th on Saturday, followed up his great weekend with another 6th place finish on Sunday. Just like Saturday, the race was plagued with another red flag but this time due to some light rain. Bobby was already four laps down and there was no way his crew could get his bike repaired in time to restart the race. For Michael the situation was a bit different and he was able to restart the race in 6th position. “Both riders did excellent this weekend and although we would have loved to see them on the podium today, things happen and we will move forward from here,” said Team Manager Mark Crozier. “Bobby and Michael did better this weekend than they have all year and we anticipate them running up front at the last two rounds.”

In Sunday’s AMA Pro SuperSport race Joey Pascrella took the early lead and was holding that position until lap 6 when the clutch went out on his bike. Joey was forced to retire from the race. “I really wish I could’ve finished the race and put my DNA Energy Drink/CnR Motorsports Yamaha YZF-R6 back on the podium again today.” said Joey. “These things happen sometimes.”

The team is looking forward to heading to New Jersey Labor Day weekend, September 3-5, at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville. Both Michael Beck and Bobby Fong had good finishes there last year. Teammate Joey Pascarella has yet to ride at the track.

EBC Brakes are the choice for Canadas top road race rider who shows his skills off road

Szoke uncrated his new Raga Gas-Gas 300 just one short week before Rounds #2 and #3 of the Canadian Motorcycle Association Observed Trials Championship held in the beautiful areas of Tweed and Arden, just a few short kilometers from Belleville ON.  At the end of the two day event, a new CMA Trials Champion will be crowned.  Szoke once again, attempts to be the slowest man in Canada on a motorcycle having won the CMA Trials Championship in 2009.

The beautiful backyard of Dave Cordy in Tweed ON hosted Round 2.  The last time an event was held at this location it was a prestigious World Event.  The organizers carefully laid out a 10 section 4 loop competition for the Nationals.  The CMA competitors adjusted to what seems to be the “norm” in Trials competitions, to small amount of moisture decorating the sections.  Around noon on Saturday, Szoke straps on his Shoei and starts out on his new Raga Gas-Gas for his first loop.  In Trials competitions the goal is to achieve the lowest score by keeping your feet off the ground, and yourself on the motorcycle, while negotiating through a series of sections placed within a loop.  Szoke scored most of his points in the first and second loop as he familiarizes himself with the proper lines, finishing the day in third giving him one small point lead in the championship.  When asked about his third place finish Szoke replies, “I was riding really well today and I love my new motorcycle, although unfortunately we had some mechanical problems kept us out of it today.  Tomorrow doesn’t come soon enough!”

Large staircases, and huge rock walls, welcomed the Expert CMA competitors Sunday morning at the spectacular 400 acre home of Dave Southam in Arden ON.  “This area is just awesome.” says Szoke “It’s really tough, but that’s just the way I like it. ”  10 modern carefully laid out sections in a 3 loop event was all that stood between Szoke and his second CMA National Trials Championship in two years.  A spectacular ride in section 5 of the second loop, Szoke was leading the event just a few points ahead of his closest competitor Will Duggan of Victoria BC.   “That was the ride of my life!” says Jordan.  Szoke unintentionally collected a few extra points in the third loop and finished the event in second place, enough to earn him another CMA National Trials Championship two years running.  Second was Jordan’s good friend Jonathan English and Will Duggan earned third place in the three round championship.

“What an amazing year for us.” says Jordan “To earn not only a perfect season and a National Championship in Superbike, a National Championship in Sportbike and to follow it up with another National Trials Championship is just a dream come true.”

EBC Brakes Rider’s Eslick, Holden & Wyman take 1st, 3rd & 4th!

Last modified on 2010-08-24 12:58:29 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

RMR/Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing rider Danny Eslick made it three wins in a row with a commanding victory in the AMA Pro Racing Vance & Hines XR1200 Series at Virginia International Raceway August 15, capitalizing on errors from his main rivals and continuing his domination of the class.

Eslick and RMR/Rossmeyer teammate Jake Holden challenged each other for the lead through the opening few laps of the race, with Holden making several trips off into the grass at the exit of turn one, some forced and some unforced.

“I couldn’t really get on the brakes that well into one and just kept going off the track. I was getting pissed off with myself,” Holden said after the race.

Quickly regrouping from his first trip into the grass to maintain pressure on Eslick, Holden later went off the track in nearly the same spot, this time ceding second place to Harv’s Harley-Davidson’s Travis Wyman, who held onto the spot to claim his first AMA Pro racing podium finish. It was a strong weekend for Wyman, who also finished fourth and sixth in the weekend’s Supersport class races.

Eslick took the blame for at least one of Holden’s off track excursions. “The first time I missed a gear, ran wide, and pretty much ran Jake off the track, so I’ll take credit for that one, the second time he was on his own,” Eslick said. “Then Travis was up there and I got going and put my head back down and he hung in there. I was still riding hard to the end.”

After third place starter RMR/Rossmeyer’s Kyle Wyman exited the race on the second lap with a crash between turns one and two, the battle for what was then third position waged between younger brother Travis and Doc’s Harley-Davidson’s Eric Stump, who swapped position back and forth as Stump worked the draft and made several late-braking moves on Wyman into turn one before suffering a dramatic crash in the downhill turn seven on lap 11.

“I thought Stump was going to be there for most of the race because he kept passing me going into one,” Wyman said. “At the end Danny was messing around backing it in left and right and spraying dirt in my face all through the esses. I think he was doing it on purpose because he kept looking back at me. Eighteen laps on these seems like a long time but it was a lot of fun.”

Farther back, RMR/Rossmeyer’s Joseph Rozynski finished fourth followed by James Gang/Hoban Brothers/H-D of Appleton’s Paul James in fifth, and Matthew Heidel in sixth. Cycle World’s Mark Cernicky crashed out of fifth place on the HOG Racing entry to finish eighth.

EBC Brakes impressive performance helps Maria Costello, the fastest woman at Ulster Grand Prix

Last modified on 2010-08-24 10:15:46 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Maria on the road to success by Matt Mackey.

Maria Costello MBE put in a sterling performance to become the fastest woman to lap the fastest road race in the world, the Ulster Grand Prix.

The Northampton racer took the female lap record in the Around A Pound Supersport race at the McKinstry Ulster Grand Prix at the weekend when she lapped at an average speed of 114.328mph on her CMS Yamaha R6.

The former Isle of Man TT female lap record holder beat Anita Buxton’s previous record by almost two seconds when she took part in the Dundrod 150 & McKinstry Ulster Grand Prix for the first time on a Supersport 600 machine.

Costello’s decision to cross the Irish Sea was a last-minute one, and she was thrilled to claim a lap record that had stood since 2004.

“I’d not raced since the TT and it was a last-minute decision to go to the Ulster which was prompted by an email from clerk of the course Noel Johnston inviting me to attend,” said Costello, who will be signing copies of her autobiography, Queen Of Bikers, at the Northampton branch of Waterstones next month.

“I had a few laps at a Focused Events track-day at Oulton Park the afternoon before we caught the ferry. Mick Grant, the seven-times TT winner who is mentoring me at this year’s Manx Grand Prix helped me set up both my RVF and R6, which gave me added confidence at the UGP.

“The course is so fast. I really enjoyed it and I didn’t stop smiling all weekend. The weather really helped but hats off to the organisers for putting on a top event!”

Costello, awarded the MBE last November for her services to motorcycling, will be signing copies of her autobiography ‘Queen of Bikers’ at the Abington Street branch of Waterstones in Northampton on September 24 between noon and 2pm.

“I’m always grateful for the fantastic support I receive and would love to meet and chat to the people who have supported me throughout my career who can come along,” she added.

Perfect Brakes from EBC Gave Gerry Signorelli a Perfect Weekend!

Last modified on 2010-08-24 09:13:01 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Racing for a Wish and Signorelli headed back to Miller Motorsports Park on August 14th and 15th, 2010 for the Masters of the Mountain Round #5 on the West Course. The teamʼs goal going in was to maintain the lead in Open Superstock and Open Superbike, but to also regain the lead in the King of the Mountain GTO championship. Signorelli was able to battle throughout the weekend and take wins in all three classes to achieve the teamʼs goal. There are two rounds left in the Masters of the Mountain Series where Racing for a Wish will continue to race for wins with the help of BMW Motorcycles of Utah, Intermountain Racer Supply, Pirelli, and Bob Fier Racing.

The racing started with the Open Superstock class which Gerry has a perfect record in for 2010. It was not different this time, with the BMW Motorcycles of Utah S1000RR and Signorelli continuing to show how great the bike can be in stock form off the showroom floor. Open Superbike and King of the Mountain GTO proved to be more difficult as Signorelli had to face some great riders on heavily modified race bikes. Open Superbike offered a great battle between Cusumano and Signorelli. After Gerry took the lead on lap two, Cusumano followed close and the pair put on a good show. Cusumano made a pass on Signorelli in the middle of the race on the brakes entering the Blackrock hairpin. Signorelli immediately passed him back driving out of the corner and did not look back. He went on to set the fastest lap of the race and take the victory. King of the Mountain GTO was a dramatic race. Jimmy Wood took the lead immediately and set an incredible pace. By lap two, mayhem started with Wood and Cusumano crashing out and Stern being penalized for a “jumped start”. Signorelli took the lead and managed the race from the front to take the win.

“This was a crazy and fun weekend! I was stoked to grab three wins and had fun battling. Its been a real pleasure working with Kory Cowan of Intermountain Racer Supply and helping to show everyone, with good results, just how great Pirelli tires work!”

Racing for a Wish is a motorcycle road racing program that benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation as it supports Gerry Signorelliʼs development towards becoming an internationally competitive racer.

Sponsorship opportunities are flexible and tailored to fit each businessʼ/individualʼs needs while targeting an ideal audience in an effective manner.

Fantastic results with EBC Brakes for Jeff Stern & Gerry Sigronelli

Last modified on 2010-08-13 12:29:53 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Long Time EBC Brakes Racer, Jeff Stern ,Takes Win in King of the Mountains GTU (600) and 2nd in King of the Mountains GTO (Open) at Miller M/S Park.

EBC Brakes Racer, Gerry Signorelli, riding for Team Racing For A Wish, on his new BMW S1000RR, takes 3rd in King of the Mountains GTO, as well as overall wins in Open Superbike and Open Superstock. With Masters Of The Mountains number-one plate holder, and EBC Brakes rider, Shane Turpin out so far this season due to injuries, the competition was fierce among a handful of top racers.

In the premier Middleweight class, King Of The Mountain GTU, # 999 Sherstan , jumped out into the lead, over # 57 Oleg Pianykh and #33 Jeff Stern

Stern came from behind and passed Sherstan on lap four, going inside in “Gotcha” (turn four), and went on to win by two seconds. Points leader Dave Lewis fell on lap one, tucking the front on cold tires in “Tooele Turn.” With Lewis’ falling and second-in-points Brant Wiwi out for the season with injuries, this puts EBC Brakes rider, Jeff Stern is now in the points lead in King Of The Mountain GTU Class !”

“Funny thing is, we didn’t practice on the 600 hardly at all,” said Stern. “We were struggling on the big bike; on the 600, I was less than a second off my big-bike times, so we focused on that. After one big change, things just fell in line for the 600.

“The King Of The Mountain GTU race just came to me,” Jeff Stern continued. “I was worried about Lewis and Oleg. After Lewis flicked it away in turn 11 on lap one, that really botched up Oleg, but Jesse got by cleanly. I got by Oleg in ‘Windup,’trail-braking deeply, with my EBC Brakesthen started running down Jesse. Two laps later, Jesse made a mistake in ‘Gotcha’ and went wide, and I got under him. I got my head down and put in two flyers and gapped Jesse, but he kept me honest. I’m coming up next round and bringing some friends. I’d like to thank Sport Tire Service, Dunlop tires, WSMC, Arai helmets, Motul oils, EBC Brakes, LP, LaBard and Underwood, Pro-Line Fasteners and Land Rover Las Vegas.”

In the Heavyweight classes, Jeff Stern, riding his Honda CBR1000RR, and fellow EBC Brakes, Gerry Signorelli, along with Matt Cusumano, battled and traded wins, with Cusumano taking the victory in the premier King Of The Mountain GTO race”.

Matt Cusumano got the holeshot in the KOTM GTO contest, ahead of Jeff Stern (33), Eric Jones, John Hopperstad Gerry Signorelli.

Cusumano went on to take the win by .85 of a second over Stern after 15 laps.

“I knew from experience that Stern waits until the final lap to make his move,” said Cusumano. “I couldn’t let him ride right on my tail during the race. He got close but was never able to show me a wheel. Signorelli and Stern kept up the pressure for the entire race. It was one of the hardest, most intense races I’ve run in many years. I would like to thank my sponsors, Moto-Forza Ducati of Escondido, California, and Boulder Motorsports.”

EBC Brakes rider, Gerry Signorelli, of Team Racing For A Wish had a strong showing on his BMW S1000RR, and was in the hunt all weekend, with wins in Open Superbike and Open Superstock.

KOTM GTU: 1. Jeff Stern (Kaw); 2. Jesse Sherstan (Yam); 3. Oleg Pianykh (Yam); 4. Mac Millner (Suz); 5. Philip Horwitz (Yam).
KOTM GTO: 1. Matt Cusumano (Duc);2. Jeff Stern (Hon); 3. Gerry Signorelli (BMW); 4. Gary Poole (Suz); 5. John Hopperstad (Suz).

OPEN S/STK: 1. Gerry Signorelli (BMW) 2. Gary Poole (Suz); 3. Clint Warner (Suz); 4. Travis Child (Suz); 5. Spencer Steed (Hon).

OPEN S/BK: 1. Gerry Signorelli (BMW); 2. Clint Warner (Suz); 3. Gary Poole (Suz); 4. Spencer Steed (Hon); 5. Eric Jones (Hon).

TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha Fourth at VIR; TVR 136 Third in Mediumweight Superbike

Last modified on 2010-08-13 11:18:04 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

LEEDS, Va.
Less than one week after completing round five of the WERA National Endurance Series, TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha was back on track for round six at Virginia International Raceway. Friday’s four-hour race resulted in a finish of fourth, both overall and in Heavyweight Superbike. TVR 136, the team’s Medium-weight Superbike entry, earned third in class.

As usual, the trio of Chuck Ivey, James Vanderhaar and Scott Brown piloted the TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha YZF-R1.

Practice was a key aspect of the weekend as the riders sought to get the R1 set up properly. Handling and rear suspension had been an issue at Summit Point just a week before, and practice was a valuable chance to get the bike dialed in for VIR’s rolling hills.

“We put our heads together and got a really good setup during practice,” says Brown. “I think we’re coming together really well as a team. We’re continually working on things and it just keeps getting better and better.”

Vanderhaar started the race with a full tank of VP Racing Fuel and began turning his best lap times of the weekend. As the race developed, the TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha riders found themselves battling for third place overall. For the second week in a row, increased competition was a welcome challenge for the team.

Ivey rode the second stint, continuing the charge that Vanderhaar began. “It was my first time racing at VIR in five years,” noted Ivey. “It’s a fast track and can be intimidating, but after a few laps I settled down and got into my rhythm. It was really hot out there, so I was thankful for the great ventilation on my Arai helmet.”

Vanderhaar rode the final fifty minutes of the race following Brown’s stint. When he got onto the track, there was a 48-second gap between third place and the TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha in fourth. “I knew we wouldn’t be able to catch them, but it didn’t stop me from trying,” says Vanderhaar. “I made up one or two seconds each lap, and it really kept me motivated.”

At the end, Vanderhaar had cut the gap in half, but the team had to settle for fourth.

Meanwhile, Shane Williams and Abraham Stacey raced the TVR 136 Yamaha YZF-R6 for the first time since round three at Miller Motorsports Park. They finished third in the Mediumweight Superbike class, and will aim for another podium at Barber Motorsports Park next month.

“Abraham shows great promise as an endurance rider, and our veteran team rider Shane did a great job leading the team to a podium finish,” says Ivey.

Keep up with the team’s season and find pictures online at www.TeamVelocityRacing.com

Steady Progress on EBC Brakes for Bournemouth Kawasaki

Last modified on 2010-08-11 12:14:13 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Brands Hatch  August 2010
Bournemouth Kawasaki riders James Hillier and Luke Stapleford took to their superbikes once more at the recent Brands Hatch race. Equipped with EBC Brakes and raring to go, here is their race report of the day:

James Hillier

James Hillier was looking for another good ride and was looking to keep his momentum going in this hotly contested Championship. James set to his job with Practice and Qualifying and although went 1 second faster than last year was down in 19th place on the grid on the fifth row, James was not happy with his position on the grid but 0.4 of a second would put us on the second row so we knew his Race pace would be good if he got a good start. Race day came and he did make a good start from 19th to 12th on the first lap. James set in to a fantastic pace and lapped over a second faster that his best practice time,James started to move up the field and battled his way through to a fantastic 6th place and our best finish so far this season.

This Result was as good as a win to the team having been so far back on the grid and moving through such an impresive list of Riders. The Race was won by John Kirkham on his BMW who broke the lap record on the way to his win and producing one of most awesome slides and saving it coming on to the start straight. James now moves on to 15 th Place in the Championship and only a few points from going in to the top 10.

Luke Stapleford

Luke had better luck in Practice and Qualifying and managed to improve in all the sessions and gain a fantastic front row start for the Sunday Race. Warm up on Sunday went well and a good Race looked to be coming our way, but with all forms of Motorsport things didn’t turn out our way and Luke managed to slightly jump the start lights and was awarded a ride through penalty.

Luke was running 4th in the Race until he had to take his pit lane ride through which was hindered by a pace car coming out for a few laps and also we were not allowed to bring Luke in until Nicky Coated had completed his ride through penalty and with the Race being reduced to just 12 laps that left  Luke little chance to gain places during the later stage of the Race.  The whole Team was gutted for Luke and ourselves with an easy 3rd or 4th place in the Race available.

We dropped valuable points to the top men in the Championship and now lie 4th overall with 4 rounds to go . We will be battling to get Luke back on the podium and try to forget this painfull experience.

Fantastic results with EBC Brakes – Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki’s Josh Demuth Scores a Second Place Finish

Last modified on 2010-08-09 11:11:46 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Huntington, TX (July 28, 2010) – The Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki team traveled to Circuit de Ste-Julie just outside of Montreal for round six of the CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals.  Josh Demuth was hoping to get back on track after a disappointing DNF in the previous weekend and Troy Adams was looking to continue his momentum from his third place finish at the same race.  Demuth definitely got back on track with his best result of the series with a second overall.  Jack Carpenter also joined the team as a guest rider and rode to a top ten in the second moto.

Troy Adams and Jack Carpenter got decent starts in the first MX1 Pro moto but Adams went down in the first turn leaving him in last place.  Unfortunately, Josh Demuth wasn’t far ahead of Adams because he was mired in the back of the pack at the start of the race.  Demuth rode a solid race and was one of the fastest riders on the track to climb his way onto the podium with a third place finish.  Carpenter was riding a solid race in the top ten until another rider fell in front of him taking both riders out in the last couple of laps.  Carpenter crossed the finish line in seventeenth with Adams finishing in ninth.

All three Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki riders secured a top ten start in the second MX1 Pro moto. Adams led the team in third with Demuth and Carpenter following close behind.  Adams had a great battle for most of the race with Kornel Nemeth for second position.  However, Demuth quietly passed a few riders before coming up on Adams to make a pass towards the end of the race.  At the end of the race, Demuth crossed the line in third, Adams was fourth and Carpenter finished in tenth.

“Josh rode great today,” said team manager Billy Whitley.  “I think he would have had a great shot of winning the overall if he would have got a better start in the first moto.  In the end, it was a pretty good day with Josh and Troy gaining some ground in the championship points.  Plus, we had Jack here today and it was great to see him back on the track.”

The Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki Racing Team will travel to Riverglade MX Park in Moncton, NB on August 1, 2010 for round seven of the CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals.

EBC Brakes never let me down claims Travis Pastrana

Last modified on 2010-12-08 14:12:56 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Travis Pastrana recently wowed the crowds at the X Games in Los Angeles CA by taking GOLD in Freestyle MX on Thursday, July 29th, and another Gold in MX Speed & Style on Sunday, August 1st.

Travis had actually clinched the Gold Metal before his third, and final, MX Freestyle Course Ride on Thursday, but went out and road, adding in a Double Back Flip to his stunts & jump’s, to the surprise of the crowd! Travis did not need to pull off such a complicated and dangerous trick, but did it anyway, saying it was a present for his Mom’s 50th birthday, that day!   That proves just what a Show Man ol’ TP is!!

Travis also dominated the head to head MX Speed & Style Competition on Sunday, August 1st, coming away from X Games 16 with another Gold Medal. His 11th X Games Gold Medal overall, and now a total of 17 X Games Medal’s!

The EBC Brakes brake rotors and brake pads on my Suzuki were instrumental in my Freestyle and Speed &  Style wins at this year’s X Games. They allowed me to charge harder in Speed  & Style and make better use of the course in Freestyle. They made a huge difference. Thanks EBC!

TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha: Five Podium Finishes in Five Races

Last modified on 2010-08-04 16:06:27 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

SUMMIT POINT, W. Va.—TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha continued their class podium streak during Saturday’s six-hour WERA National Endurance Series race at Summit Point. Their third-place finish in Heavyweight Superbike gives them five class podiums in five races.

Chuck Ivey, James Vanderhaar and Scott Brown shared riding duties on the TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha YZF-R1.

Vanderhaar started the race, and instantly he could tell that the rear suspension was too soft: the rear shock was bottoming out and causing undue wear on the Michelin tires. Vanderhaar stuck it out, and the team adjusted the suspension settings during the first scheduled pit stop. Further adjustments during subsequent pit stops improved the R1’s handling even more.

“I had a big moment in turn nine and almost high-sided,” says Vanderhaar. “After I came in and we made changes, my second and third stints were much better. My lap times during my next stint were about one second quicker despite being on a three-hour old front tire.”

Ivey rode the second stint, followed by Brown. Each rider took another turn on track before Vanderhaar rode the final push to the checkered flag. “The bike definitely improved with each stint and we were all able to ride the bike better,” says Ivey. “Our riders are also our crew, and they showed great teamwork and technical expertise by making adjustments without losing time in the pits.”

“Handling both pit crew and riding duties makes it that much more gratifying,” says Brown. “When we come together like that, it makes us feel that much better with our results.”

TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha owner Ivey also credits the EBC Brakes and EK Chain for the team’s fourth overall finish amid increased competition. “Summit Point is a fast track, and the EK Chain gets the power to the rear wheel. Our EBC Brakes held up in the hard-braking turns throughout the entire six hours,” he says.

Ivey recently returned from a two-week trip to China. He had just three days at home before leaving for Summit Point, and now the team is preparing for round six this weekend at Virginia International Raceway.

Up Coming Race Rider Remy Gardener Chooses EBC Brakes

Last modified on 2010-08-03 10:58:30 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

EBC Brakes for World Champion son Remy Gardner. Son of the former world 500 cc Worlds Champion Wayne Gardner is an avid enthusiast and fast up coming race rider even at his young age. Remy uses EBC Brakes on all his bikes and has been chosen by Honda as their rider in Spain as below:

Gardner Jnr. to represent Australia at NSF100 Cup in Spain

Remy Gardner, son of Australian racing legend Wayne Gardner is set to make his international road racing debut representing Australia at the Honda NSF100 Cup European Final in Albacete, Spain on 22-24 October.

The Honda NSF100 is a small race bike designed to introduce young riders from 9-13 years-old to road racing, with Honda NSF100 Championships currently running in many countries including Belgium, Finland, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, South Africa and Japan.

Committed to its support of junior riders and racing, Honda Australia continues to help develop future racing stars and was keen to provide a talented local rider the chance to compete on world stage at Albacete, with the next generation Gardner a standout candidate.

Hoping to continue in his father’s footsteps, 12-year-old Remy is delighted by the opportunity to represent Honda Australia in this major international event, where he will join other young riders from around the world to race NSF100 machines.

“I’m so excited and I can’t wait until the race. Hopefully it will be a good learning experience for me, and it will be good to see what the competition is like over in Europe,” Remy Gardner said.

“I’ve been dreaming of going to Spain to race for a few years and finally that dream has come true thanks to Honda.”

Remy already has three years of dirt track racing under his belt; a background that his father believes is a huge advantage in any racing career. But unlike many of his European counterparts, Remy is still too young to race road bikes in NSW.

As a result, Wayne has been giving both of his sons, Remy and younger brother Luca, training on various road circuits for the past 18 months. While they train mainly at Marulan, NSW, Gardner Snr purposely takes them to ride a number of other tracks in order to provide different environments.

“I’ve been considering opportunities for Remy to do some road racing in Spain for a few years now, but I wanted to make sure he had good grounding on the dirt, which provides solid bike control skills,” Wayne Gardner said.

“Now, with the training he’s been doing on tar, his corner speed has improved and skills from both disciplines are coming together to produce a good, safe, well-rounded rider.”

“The chance to represent Honda Australia in the NSF100 Mini Moto race has come at a great time in Remy’s development, and I believe he’ll not only represent Australia well, but will come away with some fantastic lessons learned,” Wayne Gardner added.

“He’ll be competing against many riders who run in a national series on these bikes, so it’s going to be tough, but such an incredible opportunity.”

Among his international rivals will be 12-year-old Luca Marini, half brother of Valentino Rossi, who competes in the Italian NSF100 Championship.

While most entrants, like Marini, will be leading riders from national NSF100 championships, the one-off weekend of competition will be Remy’s first time aboard a Honda NSF100.

However, Gardner Junior has raced larger, more powerful Honda machines on dirt and has been training on tar with Moriwaki 80′s which are also bigger, taller and more powerful than he’ll be racing in Spain.

All NSF100 motorcycles used in the event will be provided by Honda Italy and prepared by a professional team to give competing riders a top level race experience.

For Remy, the Albacete event will be a fantastic opportunity to gauge the level of his racing in comparison to the European riders, who start their road racing careers very young.

“I’ve been training on road race bikes whenever I can and racing dirt track in Australia, and hopefully that’s paid off to help me compete against the world’s best competition,” Remy Gardner added.

The very proud Gardner family will all be trackside in Spain to support Remy, as the next generation Gardner takes to the international stage in the Honda NSF100 Cup European Final.

I always use EBC Brakes for their quality says Motocross Rider Haydon Corwell

Brake Fluid
I really like the high temp brake fluid it feels great all moto long and never gets spongy no matter how hot it is or how long I ride plus I don’t have to change it as often as regular dot 4 brake fluid.

Brake Pads
I have been running the EBC brake pads since I was on 65 and they are the only brake pads I will run they feel awesome and have smooth consistent grab.

Brake Rotors
I just recently started running the oversized front rotor and I love it. I can charge into my turns so much harder and feel way more confident in my front brakes.

Troy Adams Rides to the Podium at Gopher Dunes Thanks to EBC Brakes!

Last modified on 2010-07-23 15:40:12 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Huntington, TX (July 21, 2010) – One of the toughest tracks in Canada greeted the Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki team with heat and humidity as the team looked to keep its three race podium streak alive.  Josh Demuth and Troy Adams took to the track for round five of the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals looking forward to racing again after the three week break.  The team has finished on the podium in all but the first round with Adams’ third place finish  at the Gopher Dunes track.  However, Demuth lost his third place in championship points after tangling with a lapped rider in the opening moto to end his day.

Both riders ended up with poor starts in the first MX1 Pro moto and battled their way towards the front of the field.  Adams, a Florida native, enjoyed racing through the pack on the rough sand track as he made numerous passes to get to a top five position.  He eventually crossed the finish line in fourth after Kyle Keast ran out of gas on the last lap while holding down second place.  He also gained another position after another rider was penalized for a rules violation to score his first podium of the season.

Demuth stayed on Adams’ rear wheel throughout the race as the two teammates worked through the field.  In the final stages of the moto, Demuth was battling with Bobby Kiniry and trying to make the pass.  The battle was important since Kiniry is one spot ahead of Demuth in championship points.  However, a lapped rider cut in front of Demuth as he tried to pass along a high speed straightaway and knocked him to the ground.  Demuth could not continue because of the injuries he sustained.

Demuth was unable to start the second moto leaving Adams as the team’s lone rider in the final moto of the day.  Once again, he got a poor start but moved into the top ten within the first couple of laps.  By the midway point he had moved into fourth position but a small mistake with three laps remaining caused him to fall.  He was passed by a few riders by the time he got going again and finished the race in seventh position.

“I really enjoyed the track today,” said Adams.  “I like sand tracks and I finally had a few breaks go my way in that first moto so that obviously helps. I’m disappointed in myself because I had second overall locked up until I fell in the last few laps of the second moto.  But overall, I’m glad I could come out of the break to ride strong and it will carry us into the last half of the season.”

The Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki Racing Team will travel to Circuit de Ste-Julie in Ste-Julie, QC on July 25, 2010 for round six of the CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals.

LEXINGTON, Ohio (July 18, 2010) – After winning earlier in the day in AMA Pro Daytona SportBike, Danny Eslick repeated his wining form again with his second consecutive AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Eslick took his RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing Harley-Davidson XR1200 to another well deserved victory, this time ahead of Shawn Higbee, riding another XR1200 supported by HOG Racing. Third was Danny’s RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing teammate, Jake Holden. Holden and Eslick resumed their battle from the inaugural race at Road America but Holden fell back in the late stages today and finished third.

Kyle Wyman, one of three Wyman brothers racing at the Honda Super Cycle Weekend Presented by Dunlop Tire, took fourth on another RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing Harley-Davidson. His brother Travis ended up eighth riding the Harv’s Harley-Davidson sponsored XR1200. Eric Stump was another rider taking part in multiple events this weekend and he took fifth ahead of John Ashmead.

Ashmead, a former Daytona 200 and SuperBike winner, was again riding his Brady Schwemmer Racing XR1200. Ashmead and the team had raced at Road America and in fact, had suffered a mishap due to another rider’s oil leak, not their own as was reported in the last AMA Pro Racing report. Paul James finished behind Ashmead on the James Gang Hoban Brother’s Racing XR1200 ahead of the aforementioned Eric Stump.

Eslick commented on how much he loves riding in the Vance & Hines XR1200 Series, “This class is a lot of fun, I just like riding the XR1200, and winning is going to make my drive to California that much more fun, looking at my two trophies all the way!”

The Vance & Hines XR1200 Series will resume at Virginia International Raceway on August 13-15. Please visit www.vanceandhines.com for more series and XR1200 kit information. Please visit www.amaproracing.com for full results from today’s races.

Bournemouth Kawasaki Make Even More Steady Progress on EBC Brakes!

Last modified on 2010-07-20 12:07:44 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

James Hiller and Luke Stapleford once again had a weekend of steady progress at the recent July Snetterton race. Luke especially had great success in the 600 Superstock when he gained a second and third place position securing him two podium visits.  Luke quickly made his way through to the third place position with Day and Buchan in first and second. The race ended with Luke only 2.89 seconds adrift from second place but finished the race with an awesome 3rd place position and also achieved the second fastest lap of the race at 1.09.412. This was to be the first podium visit of the year for Bournemouth Kawasaki!  The second race was just as good for luke with another great start from second row position again. He battled through to 5th, then third beating Lyon and Simpson to third, then finally past Buchan into he finishing position of 2nd place securing another visit to the podium.

James also started his race in second position too and had a bit of a run in with Mainwaring and was almost taken out at 6th position. It was at that point that Mainwaring crashed out of the race causing Victor Cox to gain his position. The race was red flagged at this point and was restarted again when James managed to gain 8th place, but then had difficulty with his third gear making him drop to a final fantastic ninth place. This has now moved James up into 19th position within the Championship and left him raring to go in the upcoming Brands GP in three weeks time!

Bournemouth Kawasaki Riders Going Strong on EBC Brakes!

Last modified on 2010-07-08 14:26:12 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

James Hiller and Luke Stapleford are making steady progress in their race season.

During his latest race at Knockhill Luke had a most helpful, quick but steady race over the 15 laps to eventually hold a 6th place win giving him valuable championship points. This was a vast improvement after the spell of bad luck endured at Cadwell back in March when he crashed from the race after a rider fell in front of him. To gain 3rd in the Championship Luke now only needs 10 points and will get his chance at Snetterton in 2 weeks time, the perfect race course for his high speed Kawasaki ZX6R and his fitted reliable performance EBC racing brakes.

James Hillier also achieved promising results after the races of Silverstone and Cadwell that finished in a 14th and 18th place position. He ended up with a pleasing 8th place on what was a challenging day weather wise.  The race day started off with heavy rain then dried up 15 minutes later making it a tough decision on which tires to use throughout, Good job his EBC Brakes never let him down! A fantastic result in this competitive 1000 cc Metzeler Superstock Championship.

TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha Third in Heavyweight Superbike at Slippery Grattan

Last modified on 2010-07-06 15:34:00 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

BELDING, Mich.—TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha’s Chuck Ivey, James Vanderhaar and Scott Brown endured a slippery weekend at Grattan Raceway in Michigan, finishing fifth overall and third in Heavyweight Superbike during Saturday’s four-hour WERA National Endurance Series race.

The team planned to get plenty of track time during Friday’s practice day on their Yamaha YZF-R1, but track events were cancelled due to a fresh coating of sealer that made the track treacherously slick. “No one knew on Friday morning that the track had just been sealed,” comments TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha owner Ivey. “We went out for a few laps and people started falling down. Thankfully our Michelin tires really did their job and we came away safely.”

The track was repaired in time for practice on Saturday morning, and by then the scheduled six-hour endurance race had been reduced to just four hours to give riders extra practice time.

“During practice Saturday morning, we just tip-toed around and felt out the track,” says Brown. “We all got some practice time in and pretty quickly found a setup that was effective for all three of us.”

Ivey took the green flag. “Grattan is a physically demanding track and it really tested my ankle,” says Ivey, who severely broke his ankle last year. “It took longer than I would have liked to get up to speed, but everyone had to ride conservatively in the opening laps to make sure the track surface was safe.”

Vanderhaar rode the second stint after he, Ivey and Brown performed a pit stop: the riders doubled as the crew during the race. “Come race time, turns one and two were fine, but in turn three you had an eight- to ten-inch line you had to hit,” says Vanderhaar. “It was tricky. We had a lot more to lose than to gain.”

Brown rode the third stint and found himself facing the wrong direction in turn three. He passed another bike for position, but the pass put him off the line of rubber that had been laid down. The outside of turn three was still slick with sealer, and the sudden loss of traction spun the Yamaha YZF-R1 180 degrees. “Suddenly I was backwards and looking at the bike I’d just passed,” says Brown. “The bike kept spinning, then the front tire came off the ground, and I just stepped off.”

Fortunately, Brown was unhurt and the R1 suffered only minor damage. The Vortex rearsets absorbed a lot of the abuse, holding up under pressure and protecting the bike itself. Brown pitted and re-teched before continuing.

Vanderhaar finished the race, crossing the line in fifth overall and third in the Heavyweight Superbike class. It is the fourth class podium in four rounds for TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha.

A Perfect Weekend, at Race City, Midway to a Perfect Season for EBC Brakes Rider Jordan Szoke?

Last modified on 2010-07-05 15:32:43 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Jordan Szoke, six time superbike and four time Pro Sportbike defending champion “did the double” on his way to a perfect season during rounds 2 &3 of the Canadian National Superbike Series held in Calgary AB Canada.  The 3.2 km roadcourse has charmed the national circuit with double header action 7 times in the past and has seen its fair share of superbike champions.  Szoke enjoys the most national superbike podiums at Race City Speedway and this past weekend was no different during his five time title defense in both the Superbike and Pro Sportbike categories.

Double Header action secures racing both on Saturday and Sunday keeping the Waznie Racing/Ciclo Werks BMC/Dewildt Honda Fast Company crew busy not only with their defending champion Jordan Szoke but with also with his wife Amy Szoke competing in her class, Amateur Sportbike.

Jordan set the tone on Friday by laying down the fastest time during Superpole and Pro Sportbike qualifying, earning him pole position in both classes and added a valuable 4 points to both championships.

Saturday Superbike practice proved interesting for Jordan, as he was met with a dilemma most riders only dream of.  “We took our “B” bike out in practice this morning and went faster than our superpole time, so we decided to ride it for the race; I guess we really don’t have a “B” bike.”  laughs Szoke.  In race #1, Jordan slipped past the field and not only earned the win for the day, but also another 2 points for most laps lead out of the grueling 22 lap race.  The Fast Company crew rejoiced, but only for a moment, as they needed to prepare for the next superbike bout on Sunday.

“We made a few adjustments from Saturday’s race to accommodate for the full tank of fuel in the beginning of the race to help it handle better.” says Szoke.  Jordan started race #2 of the doubleheader from pole position and kept his CBR1000RR out front for the entire race for his 10th win at Race City Speedway and 32nd of his career. “My goal was to see +5 with 5 laps to go, and we finished the race 6.667 over our next competitor.” smiles Szoke “I have ridden many different machines in my career and this Honda is truly an amazing racebike, I absolutely love riding it.”

Szoke started from pole position of the Pro Sportbike class as the dogfight ensued.  Positions were shuffled almost every lap, the competition passing on the straight, and Szoke responding back with a pass in the infield.  “Usually the drag straights are not a problem because we’re on Scott’s Fast Company bikes,” laughs Szoke “but so is the other guy and I’ve got a good 25 lbs on him!”

Another hard fought victory and maximum points for the Pro Sportbike Championships Szoke earned the checkered for both races of the doubleheader.  “I really wanted that, what a race,” says Szoke “that was a lot of work, these kids are keeping me honest.”

Amateur 600 qualifying found Amy Szoke shy on the grid “I was really bummed about my qualifying result, I am a second and a half behind my personal best from last season and it’s really put me in a bad position on the grid. I had better get a good start.”  Amy’s crew chief Jim and husband Jordan de-brief her and make some major changes to her CBR600RR for her two races. Focusing on the long straight, Amy aggressively passes into the thick of things to stick onto the faster riders in front of her.  She finishes her first race in 11th and the second in 10th rewarded with a second a lap faster than last season.

“The field is really stacked this season; there are some really talented racers that have elevated their game which I think it makes it more fun to compete.  I can’t wait until Mosport.” says Amy “My goal was to remain consistent and put a good race together, not just a fast lap or two, and to go quicker at the end of the race, than I did last season on my other equipment.  We definitely accomplished that.”

When asking Jordan to sum up his weekend he responds, “I really want to thank all of our sponsors who have jumped on board this season, we came to them very late this year, asking for help and were met with overwhelming support.  It feels good to put our bike on top for them this weekend.”

Szoke leaves Calgary with maximum points, sweeping qualifying, superpole and most laps lead for the weekend.

Watch for Szoke defending his 54 point superbike lead and 32 Pro Sportbike lead at Mosport International Raceway located in Bowmanville ON Canada July 8 – 11 2010.

Soft mud conditions and the EBC Brakes get a pounding but they will work great…

Last modified on 2010-07-02 08:14:48 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Huntington, TX (June 29, 2010) – Although the forecast called for rain, the fourth round of the CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals started under sunny skies at Shadow Valley Raceway in Morden, Manitoba.  Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki rider Josh Demuth raced to his third straight podium with his third place finish. Troy Adams rode through some pain from a previous crash to finish twelfth overall on the day.

Demuth grabbed the holeshot the first MX1 moto followed by Adams and the rest of the Canadian motocross riders.  Demuth continued to lead the moto until just before the midway point when Dusty Klatt made a pass stick.  Eventually, Colton Facciotti got by Klatt and Demuth, relegating Demuth to third at the finish.  Adams battled in the lead group for a while until his injuries from the prior week caught up with him.  Adams battled through the pain to finish a solid eighth place in the opening moto.

“I finally got the good start that I’ve been looking for,” said Demuth.  “It felt good to lead the moto for a while and now I just need to work on keeping my speed up for the entire moto.  The bike is working really well for me and I think we’ll be ready to push towards the championship in the second half of the season.”

In the second moto, Adams got a good jump and came out of the first turn in second position.  A small mistake caused him to fall but he quickly remounted and caught up to the lead pack within a few laps.  Adams was definitely riding his best moto of the year.  However, his charge to catch up to the front of the pack took a toll on his injured body and he slowed his pace halfway through the moto.  “The whole right side of my body was really sore and we came into round four just trying to score some points.  I was actually riding really well but started to feel it at the midway point in both motos so I decided to slow it down a bit.  The break will be a welcome relief and should help me heal up.”

Demuth started outside the top ten in the second moto and had to battle through the pack to get to the lead group. He eventually made it into fourth position where he would find himself in an intense battle with Hungarian rider, Kornel Nemeth.  The two swapped places numerous times as they battled for the moto’s final podium spot with Nemeth edging Demuth out at the flag.  However, Demuth’s better finish in the first moto would give him third overall on the day.

The Monster Energy Cernic’s Kawasaki Racing Team will travel to Gopher Dunes in Courtland, Ontario on July 18, 2010 for round five of the CMRC Monster Energy Motocross Nationals.

Jordan Szoke Scores Record 30th National Superbike Career Win at Circuit ICAR

Last modified on 2010-06-04 15:35:14 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

EBC Brakes are pleased to announce more great Canadian Roadrace results from the 1st 2010 National! Jordan Szoke who uses EBC Brakes Motorcycle Brakes in his racing won both the Pro SuperBike and the Pro SportBike races, leading every lap in both event’s !

The Waznie Racing/Ciclo Werks BMC/ Dewildt Honda team arrived at ICAR in Mirabel Quebec for Round #1 of the Canadian National Championships and were rewarded with 30+ degree weather for the weekend. For the first time, Szoke debuts his own Honda Race Team. “I’ve put all my savings, my earnings, and mortgaged my house to do this,” Szoke said. “My expectations are high”. Jordan and the Fast Company crew were not disappointed.

Szoke not only topped the charts throughout the entire weekend in testing, but also claimed the Pole Position award in Superbike aboard his new CBR1000RR. “I honestly think I could have beaten the lap record, if we had the same factors as last year.” says Szoke “The tires we are allotted to use are a harder compound, as opposed to the qualifying tires we used last season. I couldn’t get heat into it and it spun up a couple of times. The tire was off the warmer too early and cooled down a bit, which didn’t help either.”

Not to be outdone, Szoke also took his CBR600RR fast enough around the 1.74 mile Circuit ICAR to break the SportBike lap record during qualifying. “My goal for the season is to go faster on my new Hondas at every track as opposed to last year. We’re off to a good start.”

Szoke lead all 18 laps of the Superbike race aboard his CBR1000 RR and scored perfect points for the weekend. Jordan is attempting to win his record seventh Canadian Superbike Crown, and fifth straight title.
In other action, Szoke also got his bid in for a fifth straight Pro Sportbike championship with another victory. Jordan lead every lap in the eight lap race, which was shortened due to a red flag on lap nine.

“What a good start to the championships, it sure means a lot to us as a team,” exclaims Szoke, “We’re all exhausted, the Fast Company crew put over 700 hrs in over 5 weeks and the bikes are 90% there.” Famed tuner Scott Miller adds, “ It’s amazing to think that just 6 weeks ago they were street bikes, I can’t believe it.”
“Usually when you get to the track, you lose sleep.” laughs Szoke “This time it was just such a relief to be here, we were able to catch up on some shut eye.”

Jordan’s wife Amy Szoke also shook down her new infamous pink CBR600RR under the banner of Waznie Racing/Ciclo Werks BMC/Dewildt Honda at Circuit ICAR in the AM and Women’s Cup Championships. “It was my first time on a bike since September, and I wanted to brush the rust off.” says Amy “We had a new bike, a new track, a new team, and a new crew chief. There was a lot of “new’s” in there, but I was really happy with what we were able to accomplish with set up.” Amy finished 4th in Women’s Cup on Sunday and 18th in AM.

“Considering we were just a handful of seconds off the pace here, I can hardly wait to get to Calgary to see where we end up.” Round 2 & 3 of the championship is held at Race City AB. The track is familiar to Amy, as she has competed there since 2006. “I know the track well, and have had solid results there. I have trained very hard with my husband throughout the winter, I can hardly wait to go out west to see where we can peg our new Honda on the AM grid.”

It was a perfect weekend for Szoke and his Fast Company crew. Watch for Szoke defending his points lead at Round #2/3 of the Canadian National Championships in Calgary AB Canada on June 24 – 27.

Glenn Irwin – Mondello race report

Last modified on 2010-06-04 13:25:19 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

After carrying out a positive test at Mondello on the friday afternoon i felt more than ready to challenge for some strong results come race days on saturday and sunday.

Qualifying on saturday morning went to plan, my Honda cbr600 was handling fantastic (thanks to jeremy mcwilliams for all his advice) , i was pole in the 600 supersport but pushed on to better my time to make sure i had a front row start for the inaugral leinster feature race.

I ended up p1 by 0.8 seconds on the 600 and p3 for the feature race behind marshall neil and brian mccormack.

600 Race 1- This was a 15 lap race. I made a good start in the warm conditions and had a flying richie ryan close behind for a few laps, i managed to put my head down and extend my advantage to 6seconds before rolling off for a 3.5 second win!

600 Race 2- This was an 8 lap race, i set myself a target of winning by a larger margin than the previous 15 lap race, i made a good start and put my head down from lap 1, my dunlop tyres were still working brilliant with over 30 laps on them, i bettered my time from race one down to a 54.7 and won the race by 5.2 seconds from johnny buckley.

600 Race 3-  This time a 12 lap race, Again i managed to get my cbr600 off the line to another holeshot, i broke my best time of the day on lap 3 to a 54.61 before maintaining a strong pace throughout to win my 2.6seconds.  I was delighted to complete a treble in this class, i have now won 6 supersport races in a row in ireland, that has equalled my run off last season which is very pleasing early on.

Leinster 100 Feature Race- We decided to gamble in this race and go for a full slick rear tyre! With little time left we relised the 195 rear would disrupt are suspension slightly due to the difference in size of the tyre. I done the warm up lap and arrived to the grid for some last minute adjustments to the front end to counter act the difference.
After a further two sighting laps i felt i was ready to challenge marshall and brian for the big prize!
All 4 of us on the front row made a strong start and entered turn one four a breast. I was squeezed tight and exited in 4th behind derek shiels , neil and mccormack. On lap 3 i made a move by shiels into turn one before closing the gap to the front runners mid race.
I ended up 3rd and actually held the fastest lap of the race untill the last lap.

Overall i am delighted with how the weekend went! My bike performed excellent with my dunlop tyres and EBC Brakes giving me total confidence!
I am really looking forward to round two of the kildare championship at mondello in july where i hope to extend my championship lead and again challenge for the main feature race!

These results are also a testameant to all those who work hard throughout the weekend, my mechanics Adam , Niki and my Dad!

HM Plant Red Bull KTM UK – MXGP of USA Race Report – Nicholls impressive again with 7th in USA

The first Grand Prix of USA this century saw HM Plant Red Bull KTM UK’s Jake Nicholls again adventuring into the top half of the leader-board with  7th position overall thanks to results of 10th and 7th in two hot motos at Glen Helen in California. The sixth round of fifteen in the FIM Motocross World Championship was watched by 16,000 spectators as the series returned to the premier venue at San Bernardino for the first time since 1992.

Glen Helen, some 70 miles east of Los Angeles, was a much longer and faster layout compared to the tracks to which Grand Prix riders are accustomed. The almost-impossibly steep hills provided a tough test for the durability of the machinery while the downhill drops were a validation of nerve and suspension settings. Nicholls, like the rest of the GP field discovering the course for the first time, was at a slight disadvantage as hefty winds on Saturday forced organisers to scrap the free practice schedule. The 20 year old was quick to adapt however. He made a reasonable start and rode solidly for 10th in Moto1 and then held 6th place for long stretches of Moto2 traversing a rougher surface until being bumped to 7th as the race was halted with ten minutes remaining when a gust caused a Red Bull bridge to fall and obstruct the track.

Thanks to his American point tally Nicholls stands 10th in the world championship table but is just 5 marks behind Joel Roelants in 9th.

The team will now head back east in haste for the Grand Prix of France at St Jean D’Angely, near La Rochelle, next weekend and into a busy section of the calendar with four GPs and one British Championship event in the next five weeks. The French meeting will also entertain the fourth round of seven in the Women’s World Championship.

For more information visit the team’s website at: www.ktmukmx.com

Jake Nicholls:

I’m really happy to come away with a 10-6 and importantly I beat the two guys ahead of me in the championship in both races, so to pull a few points in the standings is good. It took me a little while to get used to speed of the track but that was the same for all the European riders. I want to thank KTM USA for giving us a bike that worked brilliantly all weekend and also to Steve, Wayne and Jeremy for coming out here and supporting me. It has been a good trip and the results were encouraging.

Roger Magee, Team Principal:

Jake rode his heart out today in the searing heat to prove that he is now one of the established contenders for a top 10 place in the MX2 World Championship. His true grit and determination, as well as his undoubted fitness, shone through especially in the second moto. Had this race not been red-flagged prematurely he would probably have finished even higher up the leader-board! I wish to extend my sincere thanks to the staff at KTM America, FMF, SDG seats, and all of our other main sponsors for their extensive support for the MXGP in the USA which ensured that we were very competitive on the day. We now have a quick turnaround for next weekend’s MXGP in France where Jake will be joined by Natalie Kane for the next round of the Women’s World Motocross Championship.

TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha Third in Heavyweight Superbike at Miller

Last modified on 2010-05-28 15:44:48 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

TOOELE, Utah—For TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha, Saturday’s six-hour WERA National Endurance Series race at Miller Motorsports Park was a true test of endurance. With only two riders and a limited pit crew, the team rode to a finish of fifth overall and third in Heavyweight Superbike.

Chuck Ivey and James Vanderhaar were the only two riders on hand to pilot the No. 131 Yamaha YZF-R1. They spent Friday’s practice session getting the R1 ready for the race around the 4.5-mile Utah track.

“We worked hard to get the R1 set up because the temperatures were much cooler this year,” remarked Ivey. “We had to adjust our tire compound and our suspension settings to accommodate the weather.”

Strong headwinds on race day proved to be a challenge, as well. “Between Friday’s practice and Saturday’s practice, our brake markers changed because the headwind going into turn one was so strong,” said Vanderhaar. “The wind made setup and gearing interesting, but we consistently had smooth, even wear on our Michelin tires in the race. They performed flawlessly.”

Vanderhaar started the race with a fresh set of Michelin tires and EBC Brakes pads, and he held down fourth overall during his stint. The running order changed little throughout the course of the race, as both Vanderhaar and Ivey maintained a top-three spot in class all day.

The two riders worked tirelessly, even when it came time to pit. Ivey and Vanderhaar handled tire changes, while veteran TVR crewmember Michael Dunn refueled the R1. “It really was about endurance this weekend,” said Ivey. “The cool temperatures, the wind, only two riders, and a limited pit crew: we faced a lot of factors, but did well with what we were given.”

The team’s second entry, TVR136, ran strong in Mediumweight Superbike for the first four hours. Ethan Ellis, Shane Williams and Neill Herbert were third in class before a crash in the fourth hour forced them to retire.

The next WERA National Endurance Series race for TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha will be on July 7 at Michigan’s Grattan Raceway.

TVR’s sponsors include EBC Brakes, Michelin, Yamaha, Aiken Motorcycle, XES Leather, MotoHeaven.com, Arai, Vortex, EK Chains, VP Fuels, and Dyno Jet. Keep up with the team’s season and find pictures online at www.TeamVelocityRacing.com

AMA Pro Racing SuperSport Race One Saturday May 15th – Elena Myers takes historic first win in AMA Pro Road Racing SuperSport Class

Last modified on 2010-05-20 12:52:13 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

A historic first win for EBC Brakes by supported Superbike Racer Elena Myers who uses EBC Brakes products in her races.

SONOMA, CA (May 15, 2010) – With a motorcycle racing history going back to 1934 and the formation of the AMA racing category called Class C, May 15, 2010 is the day that 16 year old Elena Myers put her name permanently in the history books with the very first AMA Pro Road Racing victory for a female rider. Myers, from nearby Discovery Bay, California, took an exciting and popular victory at Infineon Raceway during the West Coast Moto Jam AMA Pro Racing SuperSport event.

Myers has been competitive from the very first race this year at Daytona International Speedway, taking a pair of seventh place finishes aboard her Lucas Oil/RoadRacingWorld.com/RMR Suzuki. She showed further improvement at the next round at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California with a stirring fourth place finish in the second of two races, after suffering an accident moments after the start of race one.

Myers again showed her mettle at the next race at Road Atlanta, when she again had the misfortune of getting caught up in someone else’s problem on the race warm-up lap, which again prevented her from starting, but she came back to finish fifth in the second race.

Today, she again showed her ability by racing hard when it counted and took a well deserved win after battling with a number of her competitors during today’s action packed AMA Pro Racing SuperSport race at 2.32-mile, 11-turn Infineon Raceway. Myers qualified on the outside of the second row in eighth place. She jumped up to fifth place at the start and began her day mixing it up once again with the excellent field in this year’s production-based SuperSport class. .

Things started happening fast though, as Nash had trouble early, forcing him into the pits on lap one, and Gagne suffered a fall in the turn ten complex on lap seven which necessitated a red flag since Gagne’s motorcycle was in a dangerous position on the track. The race was restarted with twelve laps remaining, and at the restart Beaubier didn’t have the clean getaway that he had hoped for and not only did O’Hara move up to first place, but Pascarella and Myers were ahead of Beaubier too as the race resumed.

Now Pascarella started to get into form and he took the lead from O’Hara. Then Myers fought her way by O’Hara with Beaubier, now battling with another impressive Top Gun entry, Scott Gilbert. Gilbert, who took a second and a third at Auto Club Speedway earlier this year, was right in the middle of the mix as Beaubier began to find his rhythm and he moved past O’Hara also and started to track down Myers.

More than once Beaubier looked like he had passed Myers, only for her to fight back and retake the position. All of a sudden, Pascarella went wide in turn seven and both Myers and Beaubier moved to the front but as quickly as this was happening, Pascarella had the rear wheel slide out and the next thing you knew, the motorcycle twitched back and literally threw Pascarella off where he landed off track unhurt.

The race was again red flagged on lap 10, this time with Myers leading Beaubier. By virtue of the rules, the running order reverts back to lap 9, the halfway point and the last completed green flag lap, which showed Pascarella leading. As he was the cause of the red flag, he was moved to the end of the running order.

An emotional and overwhelmed Myers, the first female winner in the history of AMA Pro Road Racing, celebrated with the many happy fans and industry personnel present for this historic achievement. Myers commented, “When they told me the race was called, they said, ‘You got second, but wait, Joey crashed and you got first,’ and I looked at my Dad and he was crying.”

Later on, she talked about her race, “I got a great start off the front row, which worked out really well for me. I was in second and Tyler was in first and I passed Tyler and Joey was still ahead of me…Sorry, I’m just on another planet right now.” She continued, “The race went really good for me, and some people made mistakes and I took advantage of it. I don’t think it’s quite sunk in yet. It’s crazy.”

Both Beaubier and O’Hara congratulated Myers and saluted her win. O’Hara commented, “I think it’s huge for the sport. Elena just broke the barrier as far as women on a motorcycle at the top level. I’m proud of her and happy and I like racing with her.”

In Race two of the doubleheader Infineon Raceway AMA Pro Racing Elena Meyers finished a strong 5th place in the Sunday AMA Pro SuperSport event.

Larry Pegram takes two SuperBike Podiums, with two 3rd place finish’s at the AMA Pro American SuperBike Race West Coast Moto Jam – Infineon Raceway in Sonoma CA. May 15th & 16th…

Last modified on 2010-05-20 11:55:26 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

More Success for EBC Brakes by supported Superbike Racer Larry Pegram who uses EBC Brakes products in all his races.

SONOMA, CA (May 16, 2010) – Josh Hayes and his Team Graves Yamaha backed up his convincing Saturday win at Infineon Raceway with another display of superiority, as he took his second AMA Pro National Guard American SuperBike win in as many days and led all but five laps of Superbike competition at the 2.32-mile natural road course.

Hayes, who started on pole position, had to come from behind after some exceptional front-row starts from his competitors. Over the course of the first few laps, however, Hayes slowly picked off the riders in front and rode away to a 3.677-second victory over former teammate Ben Bostrom.

Ben Bostrom on his Pat Clark Motorsports Yamaha and an ever strong Larry Pegram on his Foremost Insurance Ducati both battled off Hayes to repeat their second and third place finishes from yesterday. Pegram led the first five laps of the race before being passed by a charging Hayes, who climbed back from fifth position to take the top spot on lap six, steadily maintaining his lead on the way to his ninth Superbike win.

All three riders commented that it was a different kind of race today, but at the end of the day, the top three matched the conditions perfectly and each rider was delighted with their results for different reasons.

Pegram, who rides, manages and works on his family-owned Foremost Insurance Ducati team, felt that his performances at a track where he traditionally doesn’t do well was a bonus. He did have more difficulty with slower traffic today, but overall he is leaving Infineon Raceway with a pair of strong third place SuperBike Class results as he heads into the scene of his popular victory last year at Road America.

Canada’s No1 Roadracer switches to EBC Brakes.

Jordan Szoke has rejoined the long list of clever road race riders using the new EBC Brakes EPFA series brake pads to reduce lap times on his Waznie Racing sponsored Honda CBR600 and CBR 1000 machinery. Thanks to Jordan and good luck keeping a tight grip on that Number One Plate once again.

Szoke shakes down new equipment at RACE Superseries Regional Round #2

Wiping the sleep from their eyes, Szoke and his crew pulled into Shannonville Motorsport Park in Belleville ON at 3am Thursday morning, eager to test their new Waznie Racing Ciclo Werks BMC DeWildt Hondas. It was hard to believe that just the evening before, the Superbike was heat-cycling on the dyno, while the team quickly loaded the trailer. This was the perfect opportunity to get some much needed testing time before the Canadian National Series Superbike and Sportbike title defense starts in Mirabel Quebec May 28th – 30th.

Szoke was prepared to shake the cobwebs off and test not only the new CBR1000RR and CBR600RR, but also to get familiar with his new (old) crew from Fast Company. Luckily Jordan has worked with Scott Miller in the past, the amalgamation was very comfortable. “Scott and I work very well together, he understands what we need to do to make a winning combo of rider and machine.” says Szoke.

Sunday’s races had their ups and downs for Jordan. A stellar performance in Pro 600 earns him yet another spot on the podium in 2nd place. “On a new equipment, I am very proud of what we have been able to accomplish.” smiles Szoke “I haven’t ridden since last September, and I also haven’t seen the long track configuration since 06, yet we still managed to get under the lap record. With all the major changes to crew, rider and bike, and the minimal amount of time we had to do it in, I am more than happy with our results.”

A faulty shift rod got the better of him during Pro Superbike and forced an early retirement to hot pits. “I am most disappointed we couldn’t get more laps in, we made some changes to the Superbike I really wanted to try, but I guess that will have to wait until Mirabel.” responds Szoke. “It is one of the fastest bikes I have ever ridden I can’t wait to get back on it.”

In asking Szoke how he felt about the weekend he responds, “We’re used the weekend to get our equipment and crew ready, I feel we have accomplished that.”
Watch for Szoke defending both his titles at Round #1 of the Canadian National Championships in Mirabel Que Canada on May 28 – 30.

Press Release: Double M Racing, Roy Houston

Last modified on 2010-05-18 11:40:39 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

After a successful early season, racing his R6 Yamaha in the Scottish Championship Premier class, the team has taken a decision to curtail the racing in that championship.
The plan now is to enter into as many British 600 Supersport Championship races as possible, starting with Knockhill on July 6th.

The rest of the season will be spent learning the tracks on the Double “M” Racing Yamaha FZR400 so Roy has good knowledge of the tracks when it comes to racing in the British Championship.

The Scottish championship Premier class is now open to Superstock 1000cc Open 1000s and 600cc supersport machines. Roy finished first in class in all three meetings to date and currently lies 4th in the championship overall

We feel that staying in the Premier class is too high a risk for Roy as he is having to push too hard against the bigger bikes.

Thanks to EBC brakes for the continued support, we never have any problems when it comes to the brakes!

Jordan Szoke Wins first Observed Trials Event

Jordan Szoke, mutli-Time Canadian number 1 National Superbike Racer now on EBC Brakes & Honda Motorcycle’s for 2010 Canadian Roadrace Series win’s 1st Canadian National Observed Trails Event!

As Jordan Szoke donned on his gear for his first Observed Trials event for 2010, the skies threatened to live up to the weather forecast with raindrops splattering the ground at the Port Colborne Quarry.  This would be the first CMA sanctioned event presented by the Welland County Motorcycle Club where Szoke was able to compete with his CMA #1.  Jordan won the national championship in Mécaglisse last season.

The skies cleared quickly and presented the 40 eager participants to warm, sunny and hot weather.  Szoke rode his Raga GasGas 300 to perfection as he finished the 4th and final loop of the day scoring 32 points and awarded him the Expert Class victory.  His closest competitor, and TDN Italy teammate, Andrew Young, finished with a score of 77 and Will Abel rounded out the podium.

“I really wanted a clean loop and was just about there, a rear tire spin and a foot down in the last section took that from me, but all in all I was really happy with the way I rode.”  says Szoke.  “Trials is such good training for me to prepare to ride our Superbikes, I get out and participate as much as I can.”

Watch for Szoke competing at the CMA National Championships Round #1 presented by Steel City Riders in Oshweken ON Canada.

COSTELLO ENJOYS COOKSTOWN 100 DEBUT

Maria Costello M.B.E made her debut at the Cookstown 100 the other weekend, the opening round of the Irish Road Race season, on the CMS Honda RVF400. Costello will be competing at a selection of Irish Road Races throughout the season alongside her team mate Davy Morgan as part of the 2010 CSC Team.

Maria arrived at the Orritor Circuit, County Tyrone on Thursday evening with just enough daylight to complete some laps on a scooter and a couple in a car with a fellow racer.

Friday: Once the lap on the newcomers bus was completed practice commenced on Friday afternoon in dry and sunny conditions. Her first five laps were done in controlled conditions in the ‘newcomers un-timed’ session. A further two timed sessions followed and Maria found another two seconds faster in the later session. However Maria’s overall performance had been hindered by the bike over heating and losing power at the end of each session. Despite this problem she had still achieved her goal of qualifying in the ‘A Race’ which she realised with a lap time of 1 min 41.5 seconds.

With the over heating issues it was essential for the engine to be replaced with the spare, recently re-freshed by tuner Tony Holmes, once practice had concluded. Costello’s sponsor and mechanics worked late in to the evening to ensure she would have a machine on which she could secure a finish on the following day.

Saturday: Racers and fans alike were pleased to be greeted by yet another dry and sunny day, albeit slightly cooler, for race day of the season opener. With the new engine installed Costello was allowed one lap during the warm up for the 125 race to ensure all was as it should be for her one and only race of the day in the combined 250GP / 400SS Race.

As she lined up on the grid her CSC Team mechanic Maurice Hogg gave the bike a final check over and Maria some final words of advice before the flag dropped and Maria was away with the pack down the fast top gear straight and in to the heavy breaking zone of the first corner.

Still learning the course with each lap Maria’s confidence was boosted by the fact that she could easily maintain the same pace as her rivals and during the race she improved her laps times by over 4.5 seconds. It was only when a couple of slower riders were encountered that her lack of knowledge of the course meant that she lost touch with the two front runners. Once past them she set about catching and passing the 400 in front. She did so on the final lap, out-braking him at the McAdoo Bends which was a feat in itself as the brakes were fading fast due to the deteriorating front brake master cylinder. Maria crossed the finish line in 3rd place in the 400 class, lapping the course in a commendable 1 min 37.9 seconds.

Maria Costello:
“I really enjoyed racing the Orritor Circuit and I’m really pleased with my lap times. I’m getting a real taste for these Irish road races and the Irish hospitality is always second to none. My sponsor Tony Morris brought two of his friends along, one of which used to work for Honda in Grand Prix. I don’t think they expected to get their hands dirty but they worked alongside my mechanic Tim McGivern and did a great job of swapping engines in the RVF. The weekend wouldn’t have been possible without my personal sponsor Tony Morris, mechanic Tim McGivern, Steve, Simon, Maurice Hogg and the CSC Team. Thank you to all my sponsors and supporters for keeping me on track.

Personal Sponsor Tony Morris of CMS:
“The weekend has been so enjoyable. The Irish couldn’t be more accommodating. It hasn’t been without its hurdles but nothing is worth doing is easy. I was so pleased to see Maria cross the finish line especially as that bike hasn’t been run since the Manx Grand Prix last year. Maria deserves to be pleased with what she achieved this weekend and I look forward to the next outing which could be as soon as the Thundersport GB round at Snetterton this weekend.”

Thus far, this was the best seminar I have done they gave me big spot in their show room and a lot of people showed up. I felt like the seminar went very smoothly and at this seminar I felt like I had a lot of content to benefit each person that took the time to attend.

March 20-21 – Riding School-Myakka City, FL
Had a great group of riders and we worked really hard for the two days. I really enjoyed hanging out, watching movies and eating dinner with the entire group. Other than the nasty down pour that came through on Sunday afternoon, the class went great and we all learned a lot. A few spills, but all in all all of us had a great weekend! We even got to do some swamp riding after the rain storm!

March 27-28 – Advanced youth Class-Abbottstown, PA-The Smith’s property
This was a tough class because each and every rider was already good! Making good riders better takes a lot of work and it was tough for me to challenge them! I had some tough hills they conquered, but it took them a few tries and there was some plastic left on the hills! These riders made big improvements on technique, style and speed in our two days together. And we lucked out on the weather, it started raining on Sunday night after we finished, so we had perfect timing!

April 3-4 – Riding School-Eldon, MO
We had a big rainstorm come through on Friday afternoon which made things a little soggy Saturday, but was perfect by the afternoon. I need to thank Steve and Frank Leivan for all their help all weekend, to have a great rider like Steve helping lay out the obstacles was a huge benefit (Steve is a 18+ time Missouri State Champ). The class went good, except for when I exploded my finger apart. I was demonstrating how to wheelie through tight trees and wasn’t running barkbusters, and when I went to wheelie I spun and went straight into the tree……the result was a severely mangled finger. Thanks to Doctor Frank Leivan, he patched er’ up and back on the trail I went! The rest of the class went really smooth and I could see huge gains by all riders by Sunday afternoon, they all gained a lot of confidence to tackle sections of the track very aggressively!

April 7-8 – Riding School-Travelers Rest, SC
This was a really fun group of riders that worked really hard on and off the bike. We tackled some gnarly hills and each riders did very good in mastering their throttle/clutch control. We did some big log doubles that were scary at first, but once their confidence level came up on the smaller obstacle they mastered the log jumping technique. We had great weather until Thursday afternoon. We rode in the morning because we knew the rain was coming and decided to do our workouts later in the day. When the rain came in, it was like a Hurricane!! The water was coming down in buckets and about folded my tents in because of all the rain! We finished off the class with a light workout and then headed to Randy Hawkins’ place for a good old fashioned southern shrimp boil. We all ate our fill and I am sure each rider slept well, we had a long two days on and off the bike.

April 9 – Cycle Gear Seminar-Greenville, SC
This was a very nice store, and we had the entire team on hand to sign autographs. The seminar portion was kind of cut off, but I think the people that came out got a really good experience to hang out and talk with the entire team.

April 10-11 – Yamaha Demo Days-Big Buck GNCC-Union, SC
This demo, we decided to do both days instead of just on Saturday to try and cater to the motorcycle fans that would be showing up on Sunday. We had a great turnout and I got to see a lot of familiar faces and take them to my test loop. All the riders that participated in the demo enjoyed the experience and put their laps in on the bikes. I think this program is growing, each round we get more riders participating and I have had some custom-sided “sammich” signs made try and let people know what is going on under the tents. I have attached a picture of one side of the sign.

Up-Coming Events:
April 24-25 – Riding School-Peterstown, WV
May 1-2 – Riding School-Winnesboro, LA
May 7-8 – Riding School-Henderson, NC (At North Carolina Motorsports Park)
May 14-16 – Trail Ride in Tuscumbia, AL (Seven Springs Resort)
May 22-23 – Riding School-Canaseraga, NY
May 29-30 – Riding School-Standal, IN

TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha Takes Third at Talladega

MUNFORD, Ala.—Amid stiff competition during Saturday’s WERA National Endurance Series race at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway, TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha took third in the Heavyweight Superbike class, scoring a finish of fourth overall.

Friday’s practice day was a successful one for riders Chuck Ivey, James Vanderhaar, Scott Brown and Russ Wikle, who got the TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha YZF-R1 dialed in with plenty of time to spare.

Vanderhaar proved just how well the R1 was running when he started the four-hour race on Saturday. He started on the third row, but after the first turn he was already in third place overall.

Following Vanderhaar’s stint, Wikle took over. “We tried a new Michelin tire compound and it gave me more confidence on the throttle,” says Wikle. “I went a whole second faster in the race than I did in practice. I felt like I was conserving the tire really well while keeping up a fast pace.”

Halfway through his stint, though, Wikle lost a contact lens. Unable to see properly, he pitted and handed over to Brown.

For Brown, the real race was the scramble to get ready to ride. “I got on the bike forty-five minutes sooner than expected, but my stint went smoothly. The R1 was set up really well and it performed flawlessly,” says Brown.

Vanderhaar took over for a second stint after Brown pitted. “When Scott came off I got a new tire and a full tank,” says Vanderhaar. “I was able to manage the rear tire quite a bit better the second stint than I was at the start.”

Ivey rode the final stint, wrapping up the race on the same Michelin front tire that was on the R1 at the beginning of the race. The TVR / EBC Brakes Yamaha R1 crossed the finish line third in class and fourth overall.

“Everyone rode really well, but when it was all said and done, the guys ahead of us were a little bit faster this time,” says Ivey. “We’re really looking forward to next month’s round at Miller Motorsports Park. We really excel on fast, flowing tracks and we have a good history there.”

Keep up with the team’s season and find pictures online at www.TeamVelocityRacing.com.

Team Gardner News – Spring 2010

Off-season training
During the off-season Team Gardner put away the dirt bikes and took up training on the tar. With two borrowed Moriwaki 80s in the garage the boys were itching to get more time on the machines and develop their road racing skills. “I really love riding on the tar,” says Remy. “It’s so much fun and I can’t wait to race.” Luca is also a fan. “I really wish I could race on the road now, but I have to wait until I’m old enough,” he says. Dad Wayne believes their dirt track experience will be a huge advantage when they do step on a road bike for real, but says the boys will continue getting dirty for some time to come.

AND THEY’RE OFF… THE 2010 SEASON IS WELL UNDERWAY

The Australian dirt track season has started well for Team Gardner with a number of practice sessions, one Central Coast Junior Motorcycle Club round, and the Denis and Denise Scott memorial races under their belts, along with last weekend’s reputed Casey Stoner Cup at the Kurri Kurri Junior Motorcycle Club.

This season will see Remy riding up an age group as he turns twelve. Although many of his previous competitors will move to the older class with him, they’ll join a talented group of riders who have been cometitive in the older age group for one or two years already. This will prove an interesting challenge and huge learning experience for Remy, who will compete on his beloved Honda 150RB 4-stroke in the 11 to under 13 small wheel category; and on a new bike in the Team Gardner stable, a Honda CR85cc 2-stroke, competing in the 11 to under 13 big wheels class.

Luca will remain in the same age group as last year but will start training on the 150RB, competing at club level on the bigger capacity bike until he feels confident to race it in the bigger events. At open meetings, State, and at National level Luca will stick with his faithful Honda CRF80, competing in the modified 7 to under 11 class.

It’s an exciting year ahead for Team Gardner and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement.

2010 CASEY STONER CUP SUNDAY 21ST MARCH
The Kurri Kurri Junior motorcycle Club hosted the annual Casey Stoner Cup last weekend with a record turn out. Just under 150 riders signed on, with over 200 bikes entered in twenty-six classes.

A scorcher of a day, riders endured the heat to enjoy fantastic competition. Riders from around the country saw this as an opportunity to race the best of the best as a prelude to the Australian Junior Dirt Track Championships being hosted by Kurri Kurri in July.

It was an excellent opportunity for Team Gardner to test the new 85cc 2-stroke on big wheels, and to make some strategic setup changes before racing at the Queensland Junior Dirt Track Championships in a few weeks time.

Due to a late rule change by Motorcycling Australia, Kurri Kurri didn’t include separate big wheel/small wheel classes so Remy chose to ride the 2-stroke on big wheels in a combined class, and borrowed Luca’s CRF80 to compete in the modified class; whilst Luca competed on the modified CRF80 in the younger age group.

It was a hugely successful day on many counts. Remy and Wayne worked on the 2-stroke to fine tune set up and whilst it took most the day, both were very happy with where they ended up. Both boys achieved some great results on the track, with Remy bringing home a couple of shiny trophies.
