Pep Boys kicked into high gear during the months of May and June opening three new Speed Shops back to back to…back! Yes three new Speed Shops on the East-coast! Yahoooo!
Team EBC Brakes and I traveled from Los Angeles to join well-known names and brands in the biz to celebrate the openings of the Glen Burnie Maryland, Elmont New York and Paterson New Jersey Speed Shops – packed full of performance products…zoom, zoooom!
A good variety of EBC’s most popular SKUs are stocked at each Speed Shop which makes it convenient for you “do-it-yourselfers” who want the instant gratification of purchasing and installing the same day…you know who you are! LOL
Next Pep Boys Speed Shops scheduled to open are in Las Vegas, Philadelphia and three shops in Puerto Rico.
I got a chance to sit down with each Speed Shop manager and talk shop.

Basically my now nine year old nephew, Dale, is one of the children affected by ‘acquired brain injury’ due to a brain tumor, and there are various events taking place as i will describe to raise money for the research that’s required,but if there are any ideas or help further to what is already being done – all contributions will be gratefully received. Check the events!! As we have found through Dale, there is so much more needed to help these children and their future. This WILL help my nephew and lots of other families.

EBC Brakes & Genevieve Chappell at the Arlington Pep Boys Speed Shop Grand Opening

If you haven’t heard by now Pep Boys, a long time stable automotive super-center of choice – is going back to its roots by opening Speed Shops within existing stores in key Pep Boys markets throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.
Team EBC and Genevieve Chappell traveled to the Dallas Texas area to celebrate the grand opening of the Arlington TX Speed Shop located near the new Dallas Cowboys stadium.
A warm, sunny 80 degree Saturday attracted crew members from surrounding Pep Boys, local race-car drivers and teams, automotive enthusiasts and locals from the neighborhood to join us for the exciting occasion.
This particular location in Texas provided a good mix of bike, truck, muscle, sport compact and racers all looking to enhance their rides. Current fans came to checkout and discuss some of EBC’s newer releases, while others (especially the do-it-yourselfers” were clearly in the market for slotted and drilled rotors. These rotors seem to be “the talk of the town” right now.
I had a chance to sit down with Zach Smith the Speed Shop manager and performance products expert. Here’s what he had to say…

During our travels, we find it quite interesting meeting individuals, race teams and shop owners from different regions and learning about their interests in automotive and motorsports. One thing I’ve learned- the saying is true “Birds of a feather flock together” LOL.
While the New Jersey Keystone show reflected a sport compact, muscle car, hot-rod crowd - the Dallas TX show brought in many 4×4, truck and Jeep enthusiasts.Either way EBC Brakes and Genevieve Chappell had something to suit their automotive needs.
Yellowstuff and the GD series rotor seem to be the talk of the town in Dallas March 19th as we exhibited at the Gaylord resort and conference center.
There was a great energy at the show and lots of business transactions taking place – isn’t that great to hear?! Automotive industry is on the raise…let’s keep it rolling forward!
The Gaylord resort definitely contributed to the overall good energy- and the fact that the place was buzzing with Spring breakers didn’t hurt either.
Many of the returning shop owners, race teams and jobbers expressed that they were excited about and preparing for the upcoming season. They expressed their personal good experiences over the past couple of years after using the EBC line for the first time.

EBC Brakes in Turkey launched at show and seen by 75,000 visitors

EBC Brakes Turkey new distribution owned and run by the Kilerci family got off to a flying start in 2011 at the recent Istanbul EURASIA MOTO BIKE EXPO 2011 show.
On hand were 6 of the Kilerci staff to welcome all trade and consumer visitors to the Istanbul show and highlight the new range of existing brake poads rotors and clutches from EBC Brakes.
This show happens every year, and this is the only motorbike show in Turkey for the domestic market, East Europe, Middle East and Central Asia. And lasts for four days.

As you would expect the weather was great and a good crowd of car and speed enthusiasts were out. A special guest appearance from George Barris excited the crowd. Ms EBC Brakes, Genevieve Chappell at the Wired On Honda and RPM Show!

Genevieve Chappell (The Queen of Cars) and The EBC Brakes crew recently attended back-to-back tuner shows – Wired On Honda and RPM. Here is her report of the day:
WOH was held at the K&N headquarters in Riverside and had a down to earth, neighborhood car show feel to it. It’s a newer, annual meet-up and had a nice turn out. Because it is a smaller show, we were able to spend a lot of quality time speaking to the attendees which included many individuals who already use EBC on the cars, trucks and bikes. This also gave us an opportunity to introduce new and current fans to some of the newer and upgraded products in the EBC line.
EBC sponsors Formula Drift driver Jeff Jones, who brought his car and spent the day chatting it up with race fans. Jeff currently runs the Yellowstuff pad and the GD Series rotor.

Moving on…
RPM was next on our list.
The RPM tour stopped in Irvine Ca on a hot, sunny summer August day, for a one day event.
As with most tuner shows there were tons of makes & models…including import bikini models.
EBC had quite a presence at the show, as many owners to sport bikes, customs cars and car clubs are dedicated EBC users.
There was a ton of buzz regarding the new Bluestuff race pad – a full race track pad which is also street capable.
One thing is for certain…EBC pads and rotors are strong, tough, long lasting, environmentally friendly and here to stay! Stay tuned for announcements regarding new products and events at EBC Blog.

EBC Brakes Donate Towards The Prostate Cancer Charity Run around the Nürburgring

Good friends Matt, Nat, Greg, Jonny, Paul and Doz are going to be racing in teams to the Nürburgring where they will be doing one lap before the run home again. The lads, who are experienced mechanics, came up with this fantastic idea of the project known as The Ring Challenge over a pint.
Split into teams of two, the boys started off with £500 each and have bought budget cars to soup up using donations of money and products from charitable companies. EBC Brakes are donating some new Bluestuff Brakes and new EBC Brakes rotors for their journey which will be taking place on September 8th.

Last weekend the Pep Boys held their Grand Speed Shop Opening in Exton PA. EBC Brakes Supergirl Genevieve Chappell attended the two day event and has written the following blog about the day…
As many of you automotive enthusiasts already know, Pep Boys has spiced things up by adding a new feature to three of the current Pep Boys stores (Washington LA, Lancaster, PA & Exton, PA)…a Speed Shop!
Yep that’s right, you can now purchase and/or order premium, performance products over 5000 to be exact, right from our trusty ol’ friends Manny, Moe, and Jack. Among those products you’ll find a good supply of the worlds best brake pads and rotors – EBC Brakes – made directly in the UK.
The Washington store (first West Coast Pep Boys opened in 1946) was the first to receive a Speed Shop, last Spring, May 2009.
Lancaster and Exton, PA were next on tap – back 2 back – and lemme tell you, the Pep Boys crew knows how to throw celebration – we had a blast!
If you missed these celebrations, not to worry…Pep Boys plans on opening up six more Speed Shop locations (shhh don’t tell em’ I told you) in 2010 including locations in New Jersey, Florida, Texas and Los Angeles.

Genevieve Chappell’s 2010 CSi Mega Show Report

This years annual CSi Mega Show was held on February 27th & 28th at the Competition Specialties headquarters in Auburn Washington.
This was my first time to this area of the country and to this particular show. Upon arriving at the show we were welcomed by a group of smiling faces and KenWoomer himself.
The layout of show was clean and organized and seemed to have a common thread – trucks and off-road goodies. Personally I’m a huge fan of big off-road trucks, tires and accessories! Yes things that rumble loud on the road and dirt and shout “Get outta my way I’m coming through!” LOL
The show was open to the public and offered some wonderful show specials to all in attendance. They also featured an on going raffle both Sat and Sun with tremendous gifts and prizes donated by the vendors and CSI. Including $1000 and $2000 of Super CSI Cash every hour on the hour. There were many YEEEPIES & WOOOHOOOs from winners echoing through the building every hour – which gave us all a good laugh!
Ken and his CSI team were top notch in regards to hospitality, making all of the vendors feel welcomed and comfortable.
For example, they picked an awesome, hip host hotel, the airport Marriott. They made things convenient in way of transportation by providing a complimentary shuttle service to and from the event each day and used the friendly CSI delivery guys as our chauffeurs. They hosted a welcome banquet and concert the Friday night before the show, a happy hour / mixer on Saturday night after the show, and provided lunch each day by way of a lunch area and by cart for those of us who were tied to the booth.
My overall impression of CSI and the individuals who work there is – they care about the customers and the people they have dealings with. We like that a lot as that is our motto as well!
As usual we had a tremendous amount of good feedback and comments regarding EBC Brakes products. At this particular show we had many requests and purchases for the 3GD Rotors and the Ultimax (OEM replacement pads) AKA Black stuff. Which as most of you know, Dollar for Dollar and Pound for Pound there is not a better replacement pad than the Ultimax.
We were also visited by many anxious pro-drivers and race teams who wanted to know when they could get their hands on some Blue Stuff.
Regarding our products, we just keep hearing “EBC Brakes work and do what they are supposed to do! Our customers love them and are requesting them more and more!” And friends, lemme tell yha, that’s just music to our ears.
As a bonus Spike TV aired the PowerBlock episodes that I just shot with Courtney Hansen, on Sat and Sun. Most of the attendees (all BIG TIME PowerBlock fans) viewed the episodes that morning before the event, and then…to their surprise…there I was in their home town! They gotta kick outta that and it made for some good conversations.
Thanks to the crew at CSI you made our trip a good one. I’ll look forward to attending the show next year.

Ms EBC Genevieve Chappell visits Keystone’s Big Show

On February 20th and 21st I was in Secaucus, New Jersey at The Meadowlands Exposition Center for the BIG Show presented by Keystone. The Keystone BIG Shows are arguably the best trade shows for specialty automotive equipment and accessories, outside of SEMA. These are organized by Keystone Automotive Operations, the leading distributor and marketer of specialty auto-parts in North America.
As with most shows of this type there was much business taking place, networking opportunities, parties, and educational seminars. Plus demos, giveaways and raffles with great prizes, including some of the hottest products for 2010.
One of my favorite things was getting a sneak peak at the hottest new products for the coming year. The Big Show coordinators made this convenient to do by putting the new products in one complete section on the show floor. And because this show wasn’t opened to the public, it wasn’t as crazy or loud which made it easier to speak with the listen to the company reps about the features and benefits of these new products.
As with any good show, there are always automotive celebs and attractions. We just happened to be positioned across from the best ones!
The Edelbrock Build Live Show where attendees were able to get upclose and personal while Vic Edelbrock himself directed the build installation of a new E-Force Supercharger system on a Ford Mustang, new for 2010 in real time. Along with Vic Edelbrock’s signing and interating with all of his fans. The line wrapped around the booth with egar fans young and old. If you know and/or have ever met Vic Edelbrock, you know he’s not only a talented, mulit-skilled man, but also a happy man, who loves to joke around and sincerely engages his fans.
I received an autographed gift from him, it was his book entitled Edelbrock Made In The USA. It’s a beautiful 324 page coffee table book filled with nostalgic photos, the history of this American icon, and inspiring stories from Vic’s life. What a nice guy huh?!
Switching gears – we were on a high from the large amounts of terrific feedback we received from the attendees! Most of them were from the East-coast and Canada. They consisted of Speed Shops, garages, customizers, and pro-drivers. Every person who walked up kept saying that they had tried various brake pads and rotors, some were average, while some just sucked. Yet, EBC’s products worked and worked good! They are long lasting, and priced just right.
We also noted that many of EBC Brakes current fans and customers were not yet fully aware of the Ultimax (Black pad) which is an OEM replacement pad with a price point that can’t be beat. Depending on the specific application, the Ultimax can be priced lower, the same, or a few dollars more than a generic label pad. Talk about more bang for your buck!

EBC Brakes Girl Genevieve Chappell’s Blog on her RTM Productions Visit

Recently our stunning EBC Brakes girl Genevieve Chappell was invited over to RTM Productions, the makers of Powerblock TV’s set as a special guest. Here is a report of Genevieve’s experience:
RTM Productions based in TN knows automotive and motorsports and proves it with a strong crew of experts, one of the most beautiful female hosts on television, and a PowerBlock of automotive shows on Spike TV.
In January I was invited to join the PowerBlock crew to be a special guest, co-host with Courtney Hansen. As the EBC Brakes spokesperson, I featured the EBC Brakes sport rotors and pads, talked a little shop, discussed specs and install techniques, and chatted with Courtney about my 2010 EBC Brakes campaign & Pep Boys tour schedule.
As you know, I’ve worked in and around the automotive industry for a long time. Yet, this was my first time working with RTM Productions, Courtney Hansen, and Spike TV and I’ll admit, I was a tiny bit nervous. However, weeks leading up to our shoot, the RTM producers and writers were sooo extremely professional, thorough, and friendly, my jitters were calmed as I felt as though I had known them forever (their great sense of humor and funny jokes helped as well – lol.)
When I pulled into the parking lot, I was impressed with the size of the property and building. Upon walking in I see a welcome sign that lists the names of all the featured special guests that will be shooting on the PowerBlock that day (thought that was a sweet gesture) the front office woman greets me with a warm smile “welcome to RTM, we are so happy to have you here today.” Then out walks Justin Swanson one of the producers and I get a BIG welcome squeeze!
Justin walks me down the hall to introduce me to the man himself Joe St. Lawrence who couldn’t have been any more hospitable. We had a nice chat a few a laughs, and Justin offers to give me a tour of the entire facilities (including each studio, where I was able to get a sneak peak at the rebuilds and plans for each vehicle) pretty neato huh?!
In the waiting room, there is a large monitor where featured guests, waiting for their turn to shoot, can watch the PowerBlock being shot and familiarize themselves with the flow of production. I was the last guest to shoot and it had been a long day for the production crew. Yet, you would have never known it by the energy and attitude they all displayed.
Now, I already know what you are going to ask me…because since this shoot, I’ve been asked this a bunch of times. Is Courtney really as nice as she is on TV? No, she is not! She is even nicer than she is on TV. Hahaha I got yha- lol! Courtney and I hit it off from the start and within minutes we were sharing fashion and health tips, talking about her wedding, family life, and oh yes, of course about cars, engines and our favorite automotive products. The production crew (all guys) were cracking up listening to us.
Working as a model for over 12 years, I’ve worked with many beautiful woman…but I’m going to tell you, Courtney Hansen is one of the most beautiful, friendly, funny, and down to eath women I’ve ever worked with. Oh yea…and to top it off, she also extremely intelligent. Sorry guys, you’ll have to keep dreaming, because she is engaged and head over heels with her fiance – lucky man right?!

EBC Brakes supports Charity Run “To Hel and Back”

Early this year Carl James and Tom Picton will set off from their UK Buckinghamshire homes in their well prepared Landrover equiped with EBC Brakes on an adventurous journey to Die Hel near Cape Town in South Africa and make their way back home again.
Tom and Carl intend to travel down the East coast of Africa through wind blasted arid deserts and war torn dangerous states before heading back up the West coast via Mount Kilamanjaro, the highest mountain in the African continent, and thousands of miles of awesome countryside awash with mighty rivers and ravines. The whole trip is intended to raise £10,000 for the two charities ‘Link Ethiopia’ and ‘Alzheimer’s Research Trust UK’.
Dear EBC Brakes,
Its been a busy few months for us preparing the Land Rover and with the bitter winter winds biting a bit more now, we’re anxious for the off. To further hasten our departure, Big Brother is about to start up again.
Before we do, we wanted to drop you an update to let you know what we’ve been up to over Christmas and to tell you about our plans for the next few weeks.
We’ve had a few setbacks that have delayed our departure however, we’re now finished with all of the major mechanical machinations on the Land Rover, thankfully allowing us to concentrate on the living quarters in the back of the car.
A lot of hard work has gone into preparing the vehicle to not only cope with the conditions but also to allow us to live out of the Defender for the next year. We now have enough storage to stack and stow all of our kit, which is mounting up!
Thankfully, our signwriting is almost finished now, as the attached pictures show. It certainly looks like we mean business and within a couple of weeks we will be able to demonstrate that we mean business too.
Once all the small jobs are finished, we plan to take the car off to deepest darkest Wales for a trial run, to finally shake down the Defender before the trip. Once this is satisfactorily completed, we book the ferries, submit the visas and prepare the paperwork for the year-long expedition we have prepared.
We will continue to update the blogs, which have fallen behind of late, and of course continue to submit our Land Rover Monthly magazine articles, so do keep an eye out for us. If you need to get hold of us, out contact details are on the website and we check the email regularly.
Finally, we wanted to say thank you to all the people who have made this trip possible. We have met so many people in the last year who have helped us out more than we could ever have hoped. Without the generous donations of kit, time, expertise and advice we would never have managed to get this far.
