Best Brake Pads EBC Bluestuff NDX impress Impreza Driver Ross Wilson

Last modified on 2010-12-09 13:29:33 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

First of all I bought the EBC Red Stuff brake pads for my 2001 Subaru Impreza. These may have been older compounds, not sure. The latest compound AF 88/26 is claimed to be the best in the Redstuff group. From day one the Redstuff brake pads didn’t seem to be able to stop me and I was worried about this, I personally would not recommend these pads for any turbo Impreza modified or not.

After I had some issues with the pads above, EBC Brakes were kind enough to send me replacement Yellow Stuff pads.  After fitting and bedded in I noticed the pads were a hell of a lot better than the Redstuff brakes that I had fitted prior. From cold the pad was not great (to be expected from a road and track pad) but once warmed up they had a good quick bite, but they did not let me down under high speed or repeated breaking, I would personally recommend these pads for any standard Impreza as they did the job on my car until I pushed the boundary’s past what a standard Impreza is capable of.

The pads were then replaced once again for the new Blue Stuff pads NDX from EBC Brakes. I expected these pads to squeal and be terrible when cold. To my surprise there is literally no noise from the pads what so ever and braking from cold is in fact better than the yellow stuff pads, so during the bedding in procedure I was very impressed. When the pads where bedded in I really put them to the test. The initial bite is not as grabby as the Yellowstuff brake pads, where as for me the Yellowstuff brake pads would have a good bite and then fade away.  The Blue Stuff pads NDX had a smoother bite not as aggressive as the Yellowstuff brake pads but seemed to rapidly stop me from high speeds and during repeated braking, I could not be more impressed with this pad, it is perfectly suited to my car and have never let me down even under extreme testing. This is definitely the pad I will be using from now on in all my cars. I think the v-grooves on the pads matched with the EBC 3GD Sport discs are an excellent combination allowing the brakes to cool down and disperse the debris. During putting these brakes to the test I suffered no brake fade what so ever and can now brake a lot better…

As I mentioned in a previous email, I’d love to hear about the new discs EBC Brakes are bringing out soon and love to put them through the paces, also a two piece standard fitment disc would be very appealing to me and no doubt a lot of other drivers, so if you could please keep me posted on any future developments id be grateful.

Many thanks once again!

Ross Wilson

Tom Houghton is grateful for EBC Bluestuff Brake Pads

So far so good, nothing bad to say about the Bluestuff NDX formula brake pads. Cold bite good enough, normal usage very friendly, not yet been able to fully thrash them, but car feels safer and I have more control due to the available superior braking power. (Don’t have to put so much effort into pedal in normal driving, can finesse hard braking so that passengers feel safe and seem impressed.)

There is some brake dust, I don’t mind that, my previous front pads, Axxis Ultimate, produced more dust with less braking. My car passed MOT with no comments, suggesting that the legality of the pads for road use was not a problem.

I have put up some comments on Scoobynet (where I am thoughto). Thanks very much once again, I hope I can some day take these pads to the track and see what they are capable of.

Tom Houghton
PS My car is a 1998 Version 4 STI with 4 pot fronts and 1 pot rears.

Yellowstuff Brakes From EBC Are Perfect For Subaru Driver Timothy Kong

Finally made it back.
Had a respectable finish all things considered, but I felt like I left at least 0.5s per day on the table. Had a flyer of a last run at the ProSolo Finale but I both red lit and coned.

I think the Yellowstuff Brake Pads are perfect for my driving style. It’s got enough bite to get the car stopped in a hurry and has smooth release characteristics so I can trail brake into corners if needed. Didn’t have any fading issues either, but the weather was fairly cool.

Top UK Time Attack contender switches to EBC Bluestuff Brakes

Last modified on 2010-09-06 12:27:10 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

I’m owner/driver of a two door impreza that runs in Time Attack Club Pro Class. I won the last round of Time Attack Club pro class at Cadwell Park 4 weeks.

Over the last 12 to 18 months I’ve used Performance Friction PF01, Ferrodo DS2500 & DS3000, Carbone Lorraine & Yellowstuff R compounds.

I had just removed a set of spent Performance Friction 01 pads from my car and needed to fit a set of brake pads when I saw this thread last week, I emailed Andy and the EBC Brakes production team delivered a set of new generation Bluestuff pads within a few days.

My set-up is:
Front: Alcon monoblock 6 piston calipers, 365mm discs, new generation EBC Bluestuff pads
Rear: Compbrake 4 pot competition callipers, 330mm discs, Performance Friction 01 pads.
Castrol SRF fluid. No servo assist. Full Michelin R18/240 slicks all-round.

I fitted the pads last Friday and headed off for testing at Donnington Saturday lunchtime, I had a friend of mine with me for the day, Time Attack Pro driver Gav Renshaw. We unloaded, set-up the car and was out for our first session at about 2pm.

There is no easy way to bed race car pads in, I did about 7 laps nice and easy and cycled the pads about 40 or 50 times, no dramas with the brakes but obviously we weren’t pushing them……. I hate the smell of burning fresh pads!!!

We let the car and the brakes cool down and then Gav headed out in the car for a full pace test; warm-up lap, all good, still a bit of a funny smell from the pads (to be expected)…second lap now full pace, 3rd corner, complete loss of power….Gav dumped the car on the grass and I took a quick look under the bonnet to the marshalls clear displeasure!!…..snapped throttle cable!!! at first I thought that would be our day over but…After a tow back to the pits and a good look at the broken throttle cable I set about making a repair, managed to get a good repair to hold by modifying and fitting a couple of bits and bobs I had packed in the our race support vehicle.

By now we only had an hour of tracktime left and had only just run the pads in…..Gav went back out in the car with me riding passenger…..

3 easy laps, cold bite on the brakes pads now good, bite at full temperature not quite there yet, but still breaking in, pedal starting to get nice and firm though under heavy braking (there are 4 heavy braking areas at Donnington, in my car on low boost its typically from 130mph+ down to 40-50mph). Once Gav had full confidence in the pads (I.e. no burning clutch smell and nice firm pedal) then he let rip with a few very quick laps, he is a very smooth driver….the brakes performed flawlessly, no fade, no judder, no fluid boil, no deposits on the disc, fantastic stopping power with the good progressive feel to the brake, so an ability to modulate/control the braking forces.

I took to the car for the final session of the day. By now the brakes were fully bedded in an were improved again over Gav’s session, I have good in car footage and the braking forces are up at 1.3G, bearing in mind the pads had only had around a dozen or so laps at this point I thought this was a solid performance, I done around 8 laps and again experienced no fade or loss of performance. At no point did the tyres lock up so with further testing over the next month, with the new generation Bluestuff compound fitted to the rear of the car as well we should be able to find the limit of this pad compound/tyre combination.

I raced at AAA saloons at Castle Combe on Bank holiday Monday, however an electrical gremlin caused early retirement in the first race and cost me a podium finish in the second race, nevertheless the braking performance for the entire 13 lap 2nd race was predicable, reliable with a nice firm pedal repeatedly braking heavy from 135+mph and again comparable to the performance of the top spec racing pads I’ve previously used. I managed a number of overtaking manoeuvres by out braking competitors into corners.

From my experience to date I can say that these new generation Bluestuff brake pads offer excellent value for money and a performance that is comparable when compared to other top spec race pads out there on the market. I am intending on using these pads for the final round of Time Attack at Snetterton 10th October.

I should also say that I have no affiliations to EBC Brakes whatsoever and the above report is an unbiased assessment soley based on the performance of the EBC brake pads supplied.

Ryan Ramaine in action!
I have been doing a lot of work to the car, I did a full Chargespeed Type 1-A Body kit from Japan for the shows. I have also done a lot more suspension work to the car for the track such as steering stabilizers, frame bracing, Solid bushings, BFGoodrich R1 Track Tires. The car handles amazing now with just a bit more frame stiffening and Track tires. I just recently just shot for Import Tuner Magazine so hopefully my feature article will be out in the next few months. I wanted to know if I would be able to get some more EBC brake pads from you. I Just recently wore out my Yellowstuff brakes. The rotors seem to be holding up just fine for the type of heat and braking I am giving them. I wanted to see if I would be able to get a set of Bluestuff  brake pads to test out and a spare set of yellowstuff brake pads.

The brakes work fantastic and I would have no hesitation in recommending these having run half a season on one set of yellows. The Bluestuff brakes sound fun and I look forward to running those and comparing to the yellows.

Latest EBC Bluestuff beats all the competition according to Chris Martin

The Bluestuff Brakes seem to be working really well for us in Rallying.  While we never had trouble with the Yellowstuff Brakes, we did definitely get to the end of some long stages and have them smoking pretty good.  The Bluestuff Brakes are lasting longer, and stopping better, which is great!

At our last event, we took the overall victory, over some very stiff competition from a very well built and driven European factory built Mistu Evo!

Things are looking really great for the 2010 Ontario Championship, however it will come down to our last race in November.

I continue to get to some car shows all around the area, and many people are very surprised when I talk about EBC!  I’ve worked pretty hard at making people consider EBC’s products over alot of other competitor products. Hopefully your Canadian vendors have been pushing the products as well! I’ll actually be at a big Subaru Show this coming weekend!

EBC Bluestuff gets thumbs up at speed on Impreza

Last modified on 2010-08-06 15:26:44 GMT. 5 comments. Top.

As some of you know Tyron received a set of Bluestuff pads off EBC Brake to test the compound. So to give the pads a good and fair test we headed for the A4069.

From cold the pads offered great initial bite with great feel and the results just got better as the temperature increased.

Finally got some brake fade on them but this was a result of heavy braking into and very fast complex of bends on the top of the A4069. It wasn’t the usual brake fade either it was more of a progressive and predictable fade as the disk and pads went above there operating window. After a slow and steady decline to the hairpin the AP calipers, disks and EBC brakes pads returned to there normal operating temperatures and it was service as normal.

On the return pass over the A4069 the brakes were far more predictable with regards to fade and this would only occur after the fast sweeping section before heading into the last twisty technical section.

Would I use these pads on my Ra?

Yes I would, for all round use they are a great choice.
Becoming a great pad for track time or maybe a spirited drive over your local A road or mountain pass.

Changed the EBC yellowstuff Brake pads last week to the standard calipers front and back and they were straight forward to fit to my type R no problems what so ever, the brake pads I took off were cheap one’s they felt wooden and didn’t stop you very well at all. I went for my first run and all I can say wow the difference was incredible even though I was using them gently they have so much more bite and stopping power I had to totally recalibrate my braking.

I have now put several hundred miles on the brake pads and they have seemed to have bedded in to my EBC Brakes 3GD Slotted and drilled brake rotors brilliantly with very minimal brake dust and I now have the best brakes I have ever had on the car since I purchased it in march 2004. Up to now no brake fade no judder just good initial bite with very powerful stopping power. Today was the first day I have used them in the wet and they are very good. Now my wife cannot take the mickey out of my car any more she says “yes it goes but it doesn’t stop though”. They are a great improvement over the old pads and I am over the moon with the performance of the new one’s and thanks again Andy!

Latest EBC Brakes Bluestuff beats all the competition according to Stewart Cheal

Well then I have fitted the new set of EBC Bluestuff brake pads supplied by EBC Brakes.  The brake setup I have is Subaru 4pots up front and Subaru 2pots at the rear on my 1997 UK classic running 360/360.

I have done over a 100 miles and they are every bit as good as Andy, MD of EBC Brakes said they would be.

From cold they are just about the same as the Kevlar® Brake pads i had in place before but unlike the Kevlar® Brake pads there is no brake fade, the Bluestuff brake pads just keep biting and biting under heavy braking and stopping from high speeds.

These are by far the best pads I’ve had on this setup and would recommend them to anyone using the same calipers, if you need to change your pads give them ago you wont be disappointed.

Once again thanks Andy! :D

Latest EBC Brakes Yellowstuff Pads Impresses Subaru driver Alan Jung

I thought I would tell you all about my experience with the new EBC Brakes Yellowstuff pads. I’m currently campaigning a 2009 WRX here in the U.S. with the Sports Car Club of America competing in Solo/autocross races. The car is 3102lbs and 265 HP.

Prior to changing the brake pads, I would say that poor brake performance was the weak link in the car. I’ve had the pads on my car for 4 months. They were simple to install (dropped right in). They have improved the braking performance of my car dramatically! I can drive deeper into corners and brake with confidence lap after lap. In Northern California, they helped me win six out of the last six races. At the National Tour event in San Diego, they helped me climb onto the podium in third place amongst a field of top national drivers. They certainly make more dust than my factory pads and squeak slightly when slowing at a traffic light, but all in all they are a tremendous improvement.

US Racing Driver Alan AU gives EBC Yellowstuff Brakes the thumbs up!

12 UK drivers are testing new Bluestuff brake pads in the UK mid July and results will come thru shortly.  Meanwhile read this recent US driver report on Yellowstuff brake pads which are our top selling fast street and trackday pad.

I wanted to thoroughly test the brake pads out. I ran 14 events; placed in 11 out of the 14; and even won the Central Division Series (NW Indiana SCCA).

The Yellowstuff brake pads worked great! I would totally buy them in the future!..unless you want to send me another set! lol. The pads’ performance life is equivalent or even better than pads that cost more. I have not experienced any issues with braking. I was able to push the car to the max without hesitation…there was no brake fade, no loss of braking power. It took the punishment without question.

Don’t forget we also sell quality British made sport and standard rotors!

Fantastic results with EBC Yellowstuff Brakes from US race driver Ken Moyer

Thanks for the chance to respond with our comments! So far so good, the Yellowstuff brakes were fitted into my Subaru Forester to test out.  The initial bite is MUCH better than the stock pad, and they do not seam to fade. I have not gotten them really hot yet, but I have gotten them as hot as the stock pads would start to fade, and nothing from the Yellowstuff brakes!

EBC Yellowstuff ticks all the boxes for USA Race Car Driver Reid Andress

Last modified on 2010-07-14 09:11:06 GMT. 1 comment. Top.

I picked up a set of the EBC Brakes Yellowstuff brake pads for my wrx.  I really like the pads so far!  They seem to have great initial bite, they stop well both cold and at full temp, and compared to some of the competition pads I’ve used in the past the dusting appears to be very modest.  I haven’t had an opportunity to use them on a roadcourse yet, but on the street, for autos and stopping on the
drag strip these pads have been great.  Very comparable to carbotech competition pads I’ve run in the past, but with reduce dusting, noise and rotor wear.

Thanks for the support, both personally and from EBC Brakes, it is greatly appreciated.  I’m looking forward to testing more of your products in the future!

US Race Driver Alan Jung outbrakes the competition with EBC Yellowstuff

Last modified on 2010-07-14 09:16:43 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Thanks for generously sending me a set of your new Yellowstuff brake pads. I have them on my 2009 Subaru WRX which I am campaigning this year in SCCA Solo/autocross in the D Stock class.

So far, I am leading the regional championship series. I also placed 3rd at the San Diego national Tour event against a field of stiff competition.

I am attaching a photo of my car from the Utah National Tour event which was also the Western States Championship.

The pads bedded-in easily and provide very good initial/cold bite and linear braking under severe autocross conditions. They are a marked improvement over my factory pads.

They do squeal a bit at low speeds (coming to a stop in traffic at a light) and they dust significantly. I suppose this is always the trade off for improved pad performance (and I will take dusty, noisy pads that help me win any day).

Keep up the good work at EBC Brakes and I’ll keep racing hard.

THOSE BRAKES… WERE UNBELIEVABLE! A Review by Mike Sauer

Last modified on 2010-07-14 09:19:53 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

We never “bedded them in properly” just put them on and ran them for the most part! We didn’t even get through a whole set of pads either that was disgusting! They stopped awesome every time, no noise, no fade, no anything, just extremely dependable and quick. EBC Brakes have an amazing product, I Walked around the pits during my driving breaks and watched other teams coming in with their Brakes on fire and changing brakes 2-3 times a day I felt like I should have been doing something so I helped the guys next to me do a brake job on their car. I was in shock at how late and how hard we could brake for corner entry, it got us by a ton of cars for the four hours I drove I counted on the brakes repeatedly to help me get set up and dive underneath people into the turns.

Awesome, Just Awesome!

Chris Martin’s Ontario Performance Rally Championship Race Results

Last modified on 2010-07-14 09:05:51 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Chris Martin in action!

Chris Martin in action!

We had our season ending event last weekend, where we won the Ontario Regional Portion of the event, finished 7th overall in a very hotly contested event, and sealed up the Ontario Performance Rally Championship (OPRC) which we have been chasing hard all season.

We won the OPRC running exclusively on the EBC products we’ve received from you! Over the course of 7 events, while competitors have gone through  multiple sets of pads, we used 2 sets of pads total, and never questioned them.  The 2nd set we really only used because of the change in braking systems!   Definitely something can be said for the performance and dependability of the EBC Yellowstuff!

We look forward to a great season in 2010!  I’m working on getting the car into a couple of very large car shows around here.  Both performance oriented shows, and the Toronto International Auto Show.  All of which will be great publicity to the car, and EBC!

Looking forward, i would love to continue working with EBC in testing of the new Blue pads, which we discussed previously.  I did receive a set of  front pads in the new BLUE NDX compound.   I am very keen to try this out,  as the description sounds fantastic.   Is it possible to get a set of rear  pads to try as well?  The front and rear brakes are from a 2006 Subaru  Impreza WRX (4pot/2pot) brakes.

One question i have, i’ve been seeing some weird wear on the rear pads. It almost looks like scratching, on the leading edge.  I wonder if this is due to the slotted rotors, which are picking up small stones/gravel, and  they are getting dragged into the pads.   Maybe something to think about, maybe in the rallying environment we should be running solid/blank rotors?

Are you still looking for more people to test the new bluestuff pads? I do have a few local people around, both involved in Rallying and Road racing.

Again, i thank you for your ongoing support, as it does really go along way.  Hopefully the feedback i am able to provide is beneficial in producing better EBC Brakes products for the future!
