Bluestuff Brake Pads Automotive Race Driver Feedback – Review by Steve Wright

I did my first event with the new EBC Bluestuff brake pads. It was in a heavy rain and about 60 degrees outside. My 15yr old son (with his permit) and I co-drove my 07 MX5 on the auto-cross course. The brakes had good bite and you could really feel them getting better at about the last two corners. It was a tight course so not a lot of speed to get heat in the brake pads. I was very happy with them I placed first out of 10 cars in my class and had the 6TH fastest time of the day. I was 8TH in Index/Pax. My son did his best so far in the car and was only 4 seconds behind me for 6TH place in class.

We did a event with the Chicago Region of the SCCA. I have up-graded my shocks/struts to Koni’s so we where trying to dial them in this weekend. We did pretty good even through I was not happy with the cars handling, but the brakes where great! I was 16TH and my son Devin was 29TH out of 51 cars in the Open Street Tire Class. We where fighting a push all day. I think we could of been much faster than we were. The brakes on the other hand are just getting better every time I drive the car. Like you said, I don’t think they where bedded in yet but are really getting there. The bite cold is much better and they are easy to modulate.

We really love them. Thank you. :D

Yellowstuff Brake Pads – Automotive Race Driver Feedback by Jeff W

Last modified on 2010-05-11 14:18:12 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Got the EBC Brakes Yellowstuff brake pads installed on my RSX-S last week and raced on them for 2 events.

I had the rotors machined (1st time after 43k miles) at the same time.

I had them professionally installed and broken in a little, then I broke them in some more myself on the street, just heating them up on my 2 mi. drive to work by left-foot-braking… at least enough to generate a strong brake smell…

This car is my daily driver and weekend autocrosser. So far they are fine on the street, no problems stopping normally in the morning cold right out of the garage. I might not want my first stop of the morning to be an EMERGENCY stop.. but other than that when warmed up with 1-2 slow stops they are as good as the OEM pads. When cruising on the freeway for 15-20 minutes without using the brakes at all they are a tiny bit soft in the first stop for the first 1-2 seconds but then they start biting VERY well, with no more pedal pressure.. it’s a little weird really, the car is just stopping VERY well.. but that’s something I can get used to :)

On the autox course they are GREAT. I try to warm them up a tiny bit in the grid (pull to the starting line left-foot-braking :) and so far they have not let me down, they bite HARD and quick yet not too much to set off the ABS. They stop the car VERY VERY well (almost too well)!

I have noticed a lot of dust but again, I’m not sure if I’m thru the break-in layer yet. Do they dust less after that? Either way the Yellowstuff are great brake pads so far (and the price was right!) Thanks again!

Yellowstuff Brake Pads – Automotive Race Driver Feedback by Rob Ippolito

We just finished using your complimentary Yellowstuff front brake pads on our 94 Sentra SE-R in the May 1 & 2, 24 Hours of Lemons race in New Orleans. We used them in conjuction with Metal Master rear pads. OMG, they are awesome pads. We threw the car together over two long weekends so we did not have time to properly bed the brake pads though we did use a fresh set of rotors. It didn’t seem to matter. They were grippy yet easy to modulate.

I locked them up momentarily only once the entire weekend when a slower driver in front of me braked way early. Our team turned a total of 405 laps on the 1.8 mile track at No Problem Raceway. And the best part is there is still quite a bit of pad remaining, probably enough for another 24 hour Lemons race. This was our first Lemons and were pretty happy with our 7th place finish overall, 4th in class. I believe the EBC brake pads were part of our success. Great product. I will definitely use them again.

Bluestuff Brake Pads Automotive Race Driver Feedback – by William M King – Part 2

Last modified on 2010-05-07 14:42:25 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Lime Rock Park was excellent. I had a few issues with my exhaust being too loud but everything else went smooth. It was dry out so I go beat the hell out of the braking system. All I can say is WOW. The combination of Stoptech calipers and EBC Bluestuff pads didn’t miss a beat. Again, ZERO FADE! Super easy to modulate and that last forever. I thought since I’ll be getting them hotter on a dry day it would wear them away quicker, NOT. At this rate I can squeeze 3 more track days out this set. Five track days out of a set of pads on a 4440lb (race weight) car with 469whp speaks for itself. How you can do this and make them rotor friendly is pure genius. I have nothing but praise for these pads. It exceeded my expectation far and beyond. If anyone was to ask me about track brake pads Bluestuff will be the only thing coming out of my mouth.

My next track day is May 21st at Pocono and the following week(May 30th) at NJMP Lightening track. If you could send me four of the big stickers( with US and UK flag on it) so I can put them on my side windows for those events it would be appreciated. I was getting lots of question about my car setup after guys seen how I was running out there, especially my EBC brakes. I have the smaller sticker you sent permanently fixed on the back window. I would keep the larger one on but driving in the street I got bother by the Police saying is a obstruction of my view…lol.

Thanks again for kick ass pads.

Yellowstuff Brake Pads
Automotive Race Driver Feedback by Frank Punz

Frank from Chicago reporting in.

I had the opportunity to use the Yellowstuff brake pads you had sent me last fall. I was at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, MI yesterday. It is a 1.9 mile track with 11 turns. I must admit they held up very well and performed outstanding, with no fading and seeming like they wanted more. The track is no Road America with high speeds, about 115mph in the straights before braking. The disks look great, nothing like what the Mintex’s did to them. Stillen never followed up on my complaint with about the Mintex pads they sold me, figures. There are a few sessions left on the Yellowstuff brake pads on a track like GingerMan. On May 22-23 I’ll be at the Tire Rack test track for some autocross and I’m leaving the Yellowstuff brake pads on for it. I will be in touch for the results .

I was talking to some people at the track about the pads and no had complaints about them and highly recommended them and some running them as well, Yellowstuff brake pads. One guy says he uses the Redstuff brake pads at Gingerman with no problems on his vette all the time. I may try the Redstuff brake pads for street use myself.

Thanks again for the comp on your EBC Brakes product, I think I’m sold!

Bluestuff Brake Pads Automotive Race Driver Feedback –
Review by William M King

I had my 1st road coarse event of the year yesterday and would like to give you some feedback on the Bluestuff pads. This event was also sponsored by EBC Brakes. I didn’t know this till I arrived at New Jersey Motorsports Park. The track was Thunderbolt at NJMP. My compound number is DM2088. I have Stoptech st-60 calipers on the front and st-40 on the rear. My car is a 2007 chrysler 300c srt8 making 469hp to the wheels with BC Racing coilovers, Hotchkis swaybars and front strut tower bar. The entire day it was raining so I was unable to get on the brakes like I would have like to but I was still able to get the rotor temperature up to 1000 degrees Farenhit.

Absolutely zero fade during the five 30 minute sessions I had for the day. The initial bite was great I have at least 85% pad life left. Also my rotors are in great shape. I’m extremely pleased with EBC Bluestuff. They will be my brake pad of choice for all my track events. I’ll be attending another road coarse event in May. If you have any tweaks to the compound that you’ll like me to test or compare with DM2088 I’ll be glad to assist. I don’t think DM2088 needs any tweaks, it’s perfect for my setup with is a modified, street car weighing 4200lbs.

Mongo Racing Finishes Silver State Bilek 300 Strong

Mongo Racing use EBC Brakes products in their racing vehicles. Visit their website to read much more about them: www.mongoracing.com/

The Best In The Desert Silver State Bilek 300 in Las Vegas, NV was held under the most ideal weather conditions on April 23, 2010. The race started north of Las Vegas near Alamo NV and traveled through Scenic Caliente NV before finishing near Alamo NV. The race course was 300 miles of scenic land, but it was torturous on race teams trying to tame this course. The racers saw just about everything, desert, mountains, rolling hills, and snow and water crossings; under clear skies and mild temperatures.

The KC Hilites Ford F-150 of Mongo Racing may have finished the race in second place but the team had several victories on this day. The KC Hilites Ford F-150 normally driven by Randy Merritt was piloted today by Tracy Rubio of Kingman, AZ. Tracy also did the initial build of the Mongo Racing Ford F-150.

Randy Merritt said, “After my injury at the Parker 425 the doctor told me I needed 6 months to heal and it’s too soon to race so I called the best guy I know to drive the KC Hilites Ford F-150 for this race. Tracy initially told me he was driving his truck, but after a month of negotiating Tracy agreed to pilot the KC Hilites Ford F-150. Besides the late Manny Esquerra no one has taken the green flag in this truck but me. I’ve wanted to get behind the wheel for weeks now but I have to do what the doctor says in order to race “Vegas to Reno” in August. Today I’m doing something different, I’ve never been in the pits or chased an entire race with my team, normally I’m driving the race truck.”

Randy’s normal co-rider Chris Golding was in the race truck; it was to Chris to help Tracy learn the characteristics and handling of the KC Hilites Ford F-150 as quickly as possible.

The Mongo Racing KC Hilites Ford F-150 took the green flag at 11:11 am, starting 4th in class with the plan to drive a conservative pace, settle into the truck and see where everyone was with 150 miles to the finish. Shortly after the start of the race the Mongo Racing KC Hilites Ford F-150 closed in on the truck occupying 3rd and by race-mile 26 was in 3rd position physically. The class stayed close together on the track as they passed slower traffic ahead of them.

The quick pace of the race came to a quick stop for everyone else but the leader at race mile 94 when another race vehicle got stuck and blocked the course in a silt bed. This caused the KC Hilites Ford F-150 to also get stuck along with the rest of the 8100 class. The Mongo Racing KC Hilites Ford F-150 was able to get unstuck with help of Curtis and David Warner in their 4410 race vehicle. The KC Hilites Ford F-150 entered the second pit in second place and after a quick pit stop was able to retain second place, but was 19 minutes behind the leader.

As the course winded through the mountains near Caliente NV, the KC Hilites Ford F-150 gained time on the leader. The Mongo Racing KC Hilites Ford F-150 was scheduled to stop at pit 5 for fuel only and that’s all the truck needed. The KC Hilites Ford F-150 proved tough as it was put through its paces charging through the desert. The KC Hilites Ford F-150 was 16 minutes behind the leader with 60 miles to the finish and it was up to Tracy and Chris to do their best.

At the finish line Randy was nervous as this was the first time in his career he was waiting for his truck to finish a race and a win a possibility. The team was out of radio contact for almost an hour, but soon heard the familiar sound of the KC Hilites Ford F-150 as it crested the hill top coming to the finish line.

At the finish line Randy said, “It’s rare for two trucks in this class to go all day with no problems, but today I’m excited for the finish and the second place.”

On the podium Tracy said, “The Mongo Racing team did a great job prepping the KC Hilites Ford F-150 and it ran great all day; all I did was show up, get in and drive with no problems.”

Chris added, “We had no flats as we tortured the Goodyear Wrangler Tires on this truck trying to catch the leader, with exception of getting stuck behind someone else we had a great day. The new Master Craft seats in this truck made huge difference in comfort while racing.”

The next race for Mongo Racing is the “TSCO Vegas to Reno”, The Longest Off-Road Race in the United States on August 19-21, 2010.

Yellowstuff Brake Pads Automotive Race Driver Feedback –
Review by Glen Tomlinson

I finally had a chance to use the new EBC Brakes Yellowstuff brake pads I received in several SCCA events over the past two weeks. They worked remarkable well in my Swift DB1-Honda Formula F car and I’m really impressed. The metallic pads that I had on the car took several laps to warm up and work and they really chewed up the rotors. The Yellowstuff brake pads worked from the get go and never showed any fading that I could detect. The EBC Brakes pads have been on the car for over 9 race cycles so far and appear to be able to continue for at least that many more. Rotor wear is undetectable and the surface is smooth and groove free. The brake stopping power is smooth and instant with a lot of confident feedback. I plan to continue using these pads for the remainder of the season.

As a side note: On the April 17/18 weekend I was able to pull off first place finishes in both the regional SCCA club races at MAM. It marked the first victory for the new Honda FIT Formula F engine. Your awesome “Yellowstuffbrake pads were on the car doing the stopping.

Race Report From Jeff Jones Drift Racer

Formula Drift Racer Jeff Jones competed in the Long Beach race earlier this month on the Sat 10th. Overall he did not finish due to oil fitting line. His next race is in Atlanta on March 6th. Here is what Jeff told us about his race:

We had a good weekend at Long beach. Are race ended early due to an oil line problem. :( but the amount of fans we made will fuel us all year long. The crowed loved the car. I actually did get a lot of comments about the EBC Brakes add. I even signed a few magazines that fans brought up. I will be sending you pictures and videos as I get them. As of right now were are working on doing cover story in super street. I’ll send the details when I get them.

Bluestuff Brake Pads Automotive Race Driver Feedback – Review by Richard Nelson

Photo of Richard Nelson in action.

Guys, its Rich Nelson here with an update on the EBC Brakes Bluestuff brake pads
I gave the 2084 versions a workout this weekend at an autocross. Like last time it was a fairly large, fast course but did have a few heavy braking zones. The 2084 performed remarkably even from cold. Maybe it was the course being more suited to high HP cars or maybe it was the braking power allowing me to get deeper into the corners before applying the brakes but I did end up a second or so closer to the usual FTD holders for the events I attend.

There were a few things I noticed, though.

1. Radically different temperatures across the face the face of the rotor.
Granted, the rotors did not have much of a chance to get very hot. The hottest rotor temp I recorded was 235 degrees Fahrenheit as opposed to the over 1300 I often see on a road course. However, temperatures toward the outside half of the rotor never got above 120 while temps closest to the hub were in the 220-235 range.

Since I am lazy, I am also using them for street driving. But with a slight groove (too deep to machine completely out) in the back of the driver side rotor, I’ll not be using them much until I throw on some new rotors. The next event I plan on attending is also an autocross but it is more of a test and tune event. So, I’ll likely be thrashing the brake pads with constant heat up and cool down cycles throughout the 8 hour day. One difference I have noticed between is that unlike other pads the Bluestuff do not leave marks or deposits on the rotors.

Automotive Race Driver Feedback -
Review by Jordan Butterfield

I finally got a chance to use the Yellowstuff brake pads at an Autocross event and I must say I was quite impressed. To start I was very interested to see how the brakes would perform because of the time they do take to heat up and if they would stay warm in between runs. Well it just so happened that we had the worst grid setup in history and I had about 30 minutes in between runs, but the brake pads held up just fine.

After going through run one I really felt confident in the brake pads even if they were a little cold. By run 3 they took one application and were right where I needed. I have never had more confidence in my braking system and it really helped me go out there and be ok with braking as late and as hard as possible and I put down some really good times. So again I want to say thank you to you and everyone at EBC Brakes. I will definitely be buying pads from you guys for every need.

THOSE BRAKES… WERE UNBELIEVABLE!
A Review by Mike Sauer

We never “bedded them in properly” just put them on and ran them for the most part! We didn’t even get through a whole set of pads either that was disgusting! They stopped awesome every time, no noise, no fade, no anything, just extremely dependable and quick. EBC Brakes have an amazing product, I Walked around the pits during my driving breaks and watched other teams coming in with their Brakes on fire and changing brakes 2-3 times a day I felt like I should have been doing something so I helped the guys next to me do a brake job on their car. I was in shock at how late and how hard we could brake for corner entry, it got us by a ton of cars for the four hours I drove I counted on the brakes repeatedly to help me get set up and dive underneath people into the turns.

Awesome, Just Awesome!

Kevin Marsh all set for the Nashville Super-speed

Kevin Marsh is all set for the Nashville Super-speedways Solo Series Race this weekend. Kevin has EBC Brakes products installed on his Scion tC and is feeling confident about the race.

I upgraded my brakes as i was having trouble with brake fade at the track event. After the upgrade i was able to run the event with confidence. I was able to brake harder and a lot later and the brake feel remained consistent the whole day. I will definitely be using EBC Brakes products in the future.

I have already done one track on the new EBC Yellowstuff brake pads and 3D sports rotors will will be doing another on March 6 followup by an Autoxx Event on the 7th. The Pads and rotors are great, i have recommended them to everyone i know who is into motor sports.

More news and photo’s of the race to follow soon!
