Review on EBC Bluestuff Brake pads

Bluestuff NDX is a high friction sport and race material that can be used for aggressive street driving and certain types of track use. The material has achieved great success on the track, with quality aftermarket calipers (multi-piston systems, with better release and cooling, as well as larger rotors) and slightly less success with street-based calipers, in which pad size and caliper drag can challenge any brake material.

The biggest advantage of EBC Bluestuff NDX is its bite from cold, allied to progressive brake feel and the ability to bring the car to a complete stop. This has led to ECE R90 brake safety regulation approval and certificates are being obtained. There are certain older street-based caliper systems, with which even the new Bluestuff will have difficulty handling the caliper and slider drag inherent in the systems, but this scenario is exactly the same for other friction material manufacturers. There is NO material that will be PERFECT on the track in all older street-based caliper systems.

Bluestuff NDX comes ‘heat scorched’, which means that bed-in time is minimal. After fitment, NDX is capable of four to five races, of up-to 30 laps duration in most cases, but the pads should still be inspected every 30 laps and discarded, when the friction material measures less than one eighth of an inch or 3mm, in order to avoid fade. In street-use, its expected life is considerable and up to 20,000 miles and upwards can be expected, even under harsh driving conditions.

Using Bluestuff NDX as a street-only pad is totally acceptable but please note that, in Europe, ECE R90 brake safety regulations will require the pads to have R 90 certification which is not available for all cars. For a list of models that possess R 90 approval, you should check with EBC’s technical team via technical@ebcbrakesuk.com. Many cars are now completely approved. EBC confirms that these pads provide an excellent brake material for all kinds of street driving, being sharp on the pedal, while lasting well and displaying no hint of brake fade.
