“New EBC GPFA sintered Race pads are unbelievable if you aren’t running EBC Brakes, I will out-brake you into your favorite turn” says Tim Scarrott

2011 Closing Race Report!

Thank you EBC Brakes and Garry Gallagher, who are the industry standard. Garry has been in the business for a long time and remains enthusiastic every time I talk to him. The new GPFA sintered race pads are unbelievable – and if you aren’t running them, I will out-brake you into your favorite turn! Their products can be found at www.ebcbrakes.com

Brakes are important in Roadracing and I have tested everything out there. EBC Brakes have always have great products but the 2011 edition GPFA series sintered pads are so good, I think EBC has set new standards in road race braking that will be hard to follow

The 2011 season started off a bit slow with a crash and some mechanical and electrical issues to sort out, but such is the life of a racer! I greatly appreciate David Raff and Gregg Spears for their input with only minutes to go during round 2 and I was able to race well despite the setbacks. The season was impacted by rain during several events. The AFM doesn’t currently race in the rain and we remained flexible when a makeup round was added toward the end of the season. Once the rain cleared and the bike seemed to be better than ever, it was time to make some headway with laptimes and results. Michael Earntest, Lenny Hale, James Randolf and Dave Stanton assisted me on and off the track and I appreciate all of their input and support. I was able to reduce my laptimes nearly 2 seconds across the board and earned a 2nd and 4th place finishes in Open Production. I found that increased confidence has been an extremely important part of my racing program and this also played a vital role at the last event. I suffered a 115mph crash during Saturday practice, leaving my race bike totaled and a suit destroyed, but I walked away without serious injuries. With points and an overall podium at stake, I raced my backup bike the next day to secure important points and finish the season strong.

I would also like to thank the American Federation of Motorcyclists (AFM) – without them our racing season would not be possible. The AFM is the oldest road racing club in the United States and I know that each and every person in the AFM takes their responsibility seriously. From the race director to the tech officials to the turn workers, thank you all. Thank you also, for the 10 year anniversary tribute to 9-11, as a combat veteran, I was proud to stand in my leathers and salute our flag during the tribute and proud to race on 9-11.

As most of you know, I have the honor and privilege of working for Pacific Track Time as a staff member and instructor. This unique opportunity has turned out to be one of the most amazing experiences of my life, giving me the opportunity to work with dozens of street riders, track day enthusiasts and racers throughout the year. I am also privileged to ride with the PTT staff; unbelievably knowledgeable and skilled riders and racers, who love the sport with uncommon passion. Without a doubt, Pacific Track Time is the premier trackday provider on the west coast and gives me an opportunity to give back to the sport that has given so much to me. This year I have had the specific opportunity to work with a trackday rider, Barry Hatler and an up-and-coming AMA hopeful, CJ Weaver. Mentoring and coaching these riders has been truly amazing and I am indebted to them for teaching me as much as I’ve taught them. This year I have also had an opportunity to ride with Chuck Casey and Bud Anderson, who are both well over 50 years old and still dragging a knee. You guys rock.

This year I competed in my first ever “Formula Pacific” race, which has been a personal goal for me since I was a yellow plate (novice) racer. This was truly an amazing experience and I finished 9th in that race. One of my goals for the 2011 season was to be prepared for the Formula Pacific class in 2012 and I have achieved that goal with everyone’s help. I significantly increased my overall positions this year and while I know the curve at this level is ever steepening, I hope to continue to improve with your help during 2012!

Thank you for such an amazing season! I can’t tell you enough how appreciative I am for all of your support and this season would not been possible without each and every one of you. Fully understanding how critical your support is, I have represented each and every one of you at every possible moment. This has been an unbelievable season filled with both accomplishment and setbacks, rained out events and a 115mph crash during practice at the last event. The 2011 season is a story of your support and the perseverance to race hard all the way to the checkers and I am extremely excited to send out my 2011 season closing race report.

Next, to my fellow racers, family and friends – support my sponsors! Many of you came out to the races, cheered me on and helped in the pits. This is really so important to me and your excitement and energy helps me keep my head down and the throttle on! It also helps me brush the dirt off and get back out there even after I crash, which we all have to realize is a part of racing. I’d like to thank my fellow racers for absolutely professional, safe and sportsman like conduct and riding all year long. There was never a time that I felt we should have done it better and I know that I’m in fantastic company on the start grid. I’ve learned so much from each and every one of you and I can’t thank you enough.

I cannot thank you enough for your help and support during 2011. My success, improvements and overall podium finish in Open Production are yours as much as they are mine. Racing Sunday means sales on Monday and I promise to continue to represent my sponsors to the best of my ability on and off the track. Road racing is an unbelievable and unique sport that I am extremely proud to take part in and plan to do so for many years to come. Napa Auto Parts, Driven Racing, EBC Brakes and Arlen Ness have already increased their support for next year and I hope that I can count on each and every one of you for the 2012 racing season. See you at the track!

Sincerely,

Tim Scarrott
