Top Formula Drift brakes by EBC make for a great practice for Jeff Jones

This was the first time that Formula D has made its way down to West Palm Beach, Florida. I hope this is a new stop for years to come. It is always cool to be on a full road course. I had most fun drifting the whole track while getting back to the starting line.
For this round I had setup some new front knuckles that would have less acronym and more angle. I was really enjoying how the car felt, but after an hour into practice Formula Drift decided to change the whole track completely. The night practice was intense, flying through the course and exiting inches from the wall in a huge cloud of smoke.

For qualifying I had a good run but just missed the speed points by just half a mph. This gave me a score of 68 and put me in 25th place, going against Falken Tire driver Tyler McQuarrie. With the autograph session over, I switched out the diff to the 4.6 rear gear, and switched to the Cooper RS3 Tire. It’s a 275/40/18, the big stuff.

The practice on Friday night was great. The new setup was working perfect. I did have some trouble with the first clipping point that took out half of my front bumper. For Saturday’s Competition day, I put on my spare bumper and a fresh set of tires and went to work. My speed did pick up, but Tyler did something to his car that made him slower. I thought I would need the jump on him to keep up on my following lap. This really went against me. I had to hit the brakes down the straight to let him pass. This put us really close on the entry but gave me a loss momentum and I fell back a few feet.

On my lead lap I did an almost perfect run except for a small tire drop with the left rear wheel. Tyler had a few mistake behind me. I really felt like I had it as did Formula D judge Tony Angelo who voted for me against the other two judges. Man, were the fans mad, as was I. This was definitely labeled as one of the controversial calls of this round. Of course the audience booed the call and to make it worse everybody told me I was robbed. But hey it’s a judged sport and that’s how it go’s. I’ll keep my head high and keep pushing.
