Best brakes for Landrover by EBC help Tom & Carl go to ‘Hel & Back’!

Here is an update on the ‘Hel and Back‘ project fresh in from the boys:

Dear friends,
We haven’t been in touch for a while, but we’re now heading back towards Europe and wanted to get in touch and say “Hi”.

Over the last few months, we have slowly but surely made our way up the West coast of Africa.

It has been tough and we have had more than our fair share of corrupt border guards, treacherous roads and difficult terrain to deal with.

As I’m sure you know, the engine needed to be rebuilt in South Africa, but thankfully has been perfect ever since.

Through Angola we traversed tracks comprising more potholes than tarmac, whilst very aware that forays into the undergrowth were strictly for the foolhardy due to the large number of unmarked landmines.

Into the Congo, we encountered the worst roads on the trip, with the way ahead dwindling to no more than a footpath through the rainforest. Covering just over 100 kilometers in 6 days, we emerged from the other side muddy, hungry, exhausted but happy.

After crossing the mighty Congo river, we have made steady progress through West Africa. We’ve forded streams and rivers with water up over the bonnet, crossed deserts in 55 degree heat, hacked our way through jungle and forest and finally made it to the gateway to southern Europe.

However, none of this would have been possible without your help. To that end, we want to extend an invitation to our homecoming, on Friday the 8th of April. We would love to see as many people there as possible, ostensibly to thank everyone for all their help and hard work, without which our trip would have remained little more than a grand idea, as well as to celebrate our return after over a year on the road and 38 borders successfully crossed.

The venue is to be confirmed, but it will take place in the evening and in the Beaconsfield/Chalfonts area of Buckinghamshire.

With best wishes
Carl and Tom
