Bluestuff Brake Pads Automotive Race Driver Feedback – Review by Richard Nelson
Guys, its Rich Nelson here with an update on the EBC Brakes Bluestuff brake pads…
I gave the 2084 versions a workout this weekend at an autocross. Like last time it was a fairly large, fast course but did have a few heavy braking zones. The 2084 performed remarkably even from cold. Maybe it was the course being more suited to high HP cars or maybe it was the braking power allowing me to get deeper into the corners before applying the brakes but I did end up a second or so closer to the usual FTD holders for the events I attend. There were a few things I noticed, though.
1. Radically different temperatures across the face the face of the rotor.
Granted, the rotors did not have much of a chance to get very hot. The hottest rotor temp I recorded was 235 degrees Fahrenheit as opposed to the over 1300 I often see on a road course. However, temperatures toward the outside half of the rotor never got above 120 while temps closest to the hub were in the 220-235 range.Since I am lazy, I am also using them for street driving. But with a slight groove (too deep to machine completely out) in the back of the driver side rotor, I’ll not be using them much until I throw on some new rotors. The next event I plan on attending is also an autocross but it is more of a test and tune event. So, I’ll likely be thrashing the brake pads with constant heat up and cool down cycles throughout the 8 hour day. One difference I have noticed between is that unlike other pads the Bluestuff do not leave marks or deposits on the rotors.
