EBC Brakes supports Charity Run “To Hel and Back”
Early this year Carl James and Tom Picton will set off from their UK Buckinghamshire homes in their well prepared Landrover equiped with EBC Brakes on an adventurous journey to Die Hel near Cape Town in South Africa and make their way back home again.
Tom and Carl intend to travel down the East coast of Africa through wind blasted arid deserts and war torn dangerous states before heading back up the West coast via Mount Kilamanjaro, the highest mountain in the African continent, and thousands of miles of awesome countryside awash with mighty rivers and ravines. The whole trip is intended to raise £10,000 for the two charities ‘Link Ethiopia’ and ‘Alzheimer’s Research Trust UK’.
Dear EBC Brakes,
Its been a busy few months for us preparing the Land Rover and with the bitter winter winds biting a bit more now, we’re anxious for the off. To further hasten our departure, Big Brother is about to start up again.
Before we do, we wanted to drop you an update to let you know what we’ve been up to over Christmas and to tell you about our plans for the next few weeks.
We’ve had a few setbacks that have delayed our departure however, we’re now finished with all of the major mechanical machinations on the Land Rover, thankfully allowing us to concentrate on the living quarters in the back of the car.
A lot of hard work has gone into preparing the vehicle to not only cope with the conditions but also to allow us to live out of the Defender for the next year. We now have enough storage to stack and stow all of our kit, which is mounting up!
Thankfully, our signwriting is almost finished now, as the attached pictures show. It certainly looks like we mean business and within a couple of weeks we will be able to demonstrate that we mean business too.
Once all the small jobs are finished, we plan to take the car off to deepest darkest Wales for a trial run, to finally shake down the Defender before the trip. Once this is satisfactorily completed, we book the ferries, submit the visas and prepare the paperwork for the year-long expedition we have prepared.
We will continue to update the blogs, which have fallen behind of late, and of course continue to submit our Land Rover Monthly magazine articles, so do keep an eye out for us. If you need to get hold of us, out contact details are on the website and we check the email regularly.
Finally, we wanted to say thank you to all the people who have made this trip possible. We have met so many people in the last year who have helped us out more than we could ever have hoped. Without the generous donations of kit, time, expertise and advice we would never have managed to get this far.
