Ms EBC Brakes, Genevieve Chappell at the Wired On Honda and RPM Show!

Genevieve Chappell (The Queen of Cars) and The EBC Brakes crew recently attended back-to-back tuner shows – Wired On Honda and RPM. Here is her report of the day:

WOH was held at the K&N headquarters in Riverside and had a down to earth, neighborhood car show feel to it. It’s a newer, annual meet-up and had a nice turn out. Because it is a smaller show, we were able to spend a lot of quality time speaking to the attendees which included many individuals who already use EBC on the cars, trucks and bikes. This also gave us an opportunity to introduce new and current fans to some of the newer and upgraded products in the EBC line.

EBC sponsors Formula Drift driver Jeff Jones, who brought his car and spent the day chatting it up with race fans. Jeff currently runs the Yellowstuff pad and the GD Series rotor.

Here’s what Jeff Jones had to say about EBC pads and rotors.

Moving on…

RPM was next on our list.

The RPM tour stopped in Irvine Ca on a hot, sunny summer August day, for a one day event.

As with most tuner shows there were tons of makes & models…including import bikini models.

EBC had quite a presence at the show, as many owners to sport bikes, customs cars and car clubs are dedicated EBC users.

There was a ton of buzz regarding the new Bluestuff race pad – a full race track pad which is also street capable.

One thing is for certain…EBC pads and rotors are strong, tough, long lasting, environmentally friendly and here to stay! Stay tuned for announcements regarding new products and events at EBC Blog.

We look forward to seeing you this month at Crusin For A Cure at the OC Fair Grounds on Sept 25th and in Las Vegas at the SEMA Show, Nov 1st-5th.

Love,
Genevieve Chappell

EBC Brakes is the way to go according to Wesley Fors

Compared to other brands of brake pads, I feel like there isn’t a lot difference with the short lap-at-a-time runs except at the end as the other branded brakes were noticeably overcooked but not the EBC Yellowstuff brake pads.

Thanks for the brake pads guys :)

Latest EBC Brakes Yellowstuff gets the thumbs up from Bruce Carter

About 2 years ago I installed a set of EBC’s yellowstuff brake pads on my 2001 Corvette.  This car has a 550 horsepower Lingenfelter engine and other modifications including slotted rotors.  I was looking for a set of brake pads that would provide me with braking capability suitable for high performance driving, but retain good street manners.  For street use they have outstanding braking torque even when dead cold, they are quiet, and are kind to the rotors.  As a high performance pad they have provided me with outstanding performance during many ‘spirited driving’ stints with no fade or abnormal wear.  The only negative factor is a bit more dust on the wheels than with an OEM type pad.  I will definitely buy more brake products from EBC Brakes!!

Vette Magazine Product Preview on EBC Bluestuff Brake Pads

The latest copy of Vette magazine has just published a wonderful editorial about EBC Bluestuff Brake Pads in their latest edition. Here’s what they wrote below:

Punishment-Proof Pads
EBC Brakes Bluestuff is the world’s first racing brake pad that can also be used on the street. It’s formulated using man-made Aramis fibers, which help deliver an incredible 0.7 friction coefficient and hold brake effect up to 1,000-plus degrees. The pad material is bonded to the steel backing plates using multiple high strength interlock holes and a unique chemical interlayer that prevents pad-to-plate separation. The pads come prebedded, allowing you to install them and head straight to the track. And once you’re there, high-volume Vee grooves work to catch the large amount of track debris you’re likely to encounter. Fitments are available for most factory and aftermarket Corvette brakes. See them online at www.ebcbrakes.com or www.perfectbrakes.com.

EBC Brakes never let me down claims Cameron Ishmael

Hey Gary, Cameron Ishmael here!
I just wanted to stop by and tell you how much I appreciate your help and support through out this year. The EBC brake pads have been working perfectly and they last way longer than stock or anything else I have ever ran. I have won the last 3 race up til the summer break and I’m only 14 points down from the pro championship, I have been working my butt off all summer to come back swinging this weekend.
Thanks again!

Cameron Ishmael

Canada Top Road Racer wins again on EBC Brakes

After writing history at Atlantic Motorsports Park with an unprecedented perfect season, and seven Canadian National Superbike titles, Jordan Szoke repacked his championship CBR1000RR’s and pointed the rig south.  Once again, challenging North America’s best in the ranks of AMA Pro Racing’s American Superbike class at Virginia International Speedway.  Jordan has been to VIR before, in 2003, aboard some very different equipment.

With Thursday practice cancelled, Szoke has his work cut out for him with a small 50 min practice window before the first qualifying session begins.  The heat and humidity hanging over the 1200 acre site near Alton Virginia, had Szoke and his Waznie Racing crew sweating.  Not only due to the high temperatures, but also the pressure on Szoke to get his bike set up just right.  “Getting your bike set up perfectly is so important for us.” says Szoke “We don’t have the luxury of electronics to help during the race, so if I don’t get it just right, fatigue can play a major role when the tire starts to go off.”  Jordan’s equipment is built around the Canadian National Series rules.

With two chances to get it done, Szoke nails down his best performance on his ninth lap in the second qualifying session.  Landing him on the third row of the American Superbike grid for both Saturday and Sunday’s grueling 23 lap race around the 2.25 mile, 17 turn roadcourse.

Saturday’s Superbike race finds Szoke rocketing right up to the front with a killer start on his Honda CBR1000RR.   The first quarter of the race Szoke cranks out fast, consistent lap times.  Tire wear and fatigue set in mid way to the checkered, and Jordan finishes in 10th place.  “I can get the fast laps out there,” says Szoke, “ What we’re struggling with is consist lap times.  After 23 laps without any electronics it’s tough to wrestle a superbike around for that long.  Nailing the set up is crucial for us to be successful, luckily we have a ton of help from the guys at K-Tech Suspension to get it just right.”

Sunday’s Superbike warm up session brought around another series of major set up changes and propelled Szoke to 7th fastest of the session.  Jordan strategies with Sebastian from Dunlop for his tire compound choice for race #2.  “We chose a soft tire to try to take off with the pack at the beginning.  I’m not sure what’s going to happen at the end of the race,” laughs Szoke “but we’re going to put the Honda up there for a bit anyways.”

As Szoke settles into the starting grid for Sunday’s race #2 under sunny skies and raging temperatures, all that is on his mind are the first few laps.  It is paramount that he garners a good start in order to get the first few perfect laps required with his soft tire choice.  As the lights go out, Jordan unfortunately finds himself bunched up at the start, while the competitors ahead of him pull away.  Szoke battles past the competition, leading one of the many battles that are fought within the race.  Jordan concludes his second AMA weekend with another accomplished 10th place finish.

“I feel like we are so (so) close.” says Szoke “I am really starting to get used to the Dunlop Tires and finding out how they work.  I want to continue to compete in the remainder of the 2010 AMA season, but we will have to see if financially we can make it happen.”

With some more support, Szoke is hoping to continue competing in AMA American Superbike during Round 9, taking place at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

2010 ELLIOTTS LANDSCAPE SUPPLIES CENTRAL COAST CUP
28-29 AUGUST, CENTRAL COAST JUNIOR MOTORCYCLE CLUB INC

Remy Gardner in Action
Team Gardner celebrated another successful weekend of racing, with two top step podium finishes, two seconds and a third between them.

More than 100 riders took advantage of the opportunity to set themselves up for the 2010 Honda Australian Junior Track Championships being held at the Central Coast in October.

Remy, Luca and Josh all had success on the weekend, each of them taking home a trophy or two. Remy and Josh, along with all winners on the day proudly celebrated their wins with a chequered flag victory lap.

Famous sports commentator Darrell Eastlake called in for a few hours to cheer on Team Gardner and experience some exciting racing at his local track.

Central Coast Junior Motorcycle Club

All in all it was a great weekend of racing, testing and preparing for the Honda Australian Junior Track Championships on 8-10 October. Well done to the Central Coast Junior Motorcycle Club for putting on an excellent event and all the competitors for a great weekend of impressive and close racing.

“We did a good bit of testing this weekend and Remy and I really feel like we’ve made some headway with the set up of the CR85. Things aren’t perfect yet, but I expect we’ll be ready for the Aussie titles,” said Wayne. “We tried a few things with the 150, but Rem really feels comfortable on it as is, so we’ll leave it alone now. We just needed to get to know the 2 stroke a bit better, and I think we’re starting to do that. Luca’s 80 will get refreshed before the titles too, but it’s generally a great little bike,” he added.

Latest EBC Yellowstuff Impresses track day driver Michael Gerowitz

If there ever was a brake test, this was it. Really impressed. Oklahoma is hot…105F yesterday with a heat gun for a wind. Track temps where even more extreme. Really pushed the limits of cars and brakes. You could say that I have a tendency to really late brake. Lots of confidence all day. Session after session. By far the best brake pads I have ever run on a car. If there was a day to fade or boil fluid, that would have been it. Bottom line – when you are confident in your car, you drive better.

Car: 2002 Ford Focus SVT
Weight: ~2900 lbs w/driver
Event: HPDE (HST)
Tires: Nitto NT01 215/45/17
Fluid: Amsoil DOT4
Ducts: GT3 Air glides
Pads: EBC Yellowstuff: DP41641R – Front, DP41218R – Rear

Background:

Temp: 105F+ outside, 50-60% humidity. Track temps of 115F+

Track: Hallett Raceway OK, 1.8 miles, hard track for brakes and fluid, open class test/tune day.

IR Gun: 1200-1400F post cool down.

Braking Rundown:

Coming off 10 onto the front straight I was redlining 3rd at 7200 RPM (~95mph). Tap brakes sub 100 feet and dive into the corner (over stripes). Back up to redline in 3rd coming into 2nd. On clear laps, I was diving well into 200s on full brake. Deeper than everyone else that I was running up to on the track. Light tap in 5 to set the car. 6 was another late apex. Braking was done well at the end of the stripes on the right. Wide open up to 7. No braking up and over 8 wide open over the hills. And dive deep into 9. Again, deeper than everyone else I saw in car. Pull though 9 to straight on 10. Didn’t touch brakes to stripes on left.

Session Recap:

Hottest HPDE I have ever done in 4 years. OK has heat. 105F ambient, humid, track temps even hotter. Full driving gear. Shedding water weight like it was my business. Car coolant temp was in the red at the end of every session. Oil was hot. Pressure was maxed. Tires where hot. Was running mid-to-high 1:35-40s.

Brakes were flawless. 5 15-minute sessions and the video attached here was me running 9/10ths v. a E36 M3 (who was also an available instructor for the A group). Thats 240hp v. my 170hp. I was able to out brake and corner him in 1, 2, 6, 9, 10. Had some looks at inside lines (not allowed to pass in corner). His torque pulled him better out of the turns. Then I was able to reel him in again in braking. Even forcing some errors.
